Off-set Halos

Post

I am introducing to you all an innovation of the Halo.

The Halo as we know it has lived up to its promise. several serious injuries and fatalities have been avoided ever since it's introduction in 2018. But one of the major issues with the Halo is that it blocks a portion of the driver's view of the track - specifically down the centre. The off-set Halos are set to lessen this problem.

For clock-wise tracks, or tracks with more time critical right turns as opposed to left turns, the engineers will fit the car with a "Right hand" Halo.

For anti-clock-wise tracks, or tracks with more time critical left turns as opposed to right turns, the engineers will fit the car with a "Left hand" Halo.

The tracks that have are equal in time critical left and right turns the normal Halo will be used.

How are these offset Halo's constructed? It's quite simple really, The front pillar is positioned slightly to the left, or slightly to the right, so that the view of the left turns, or right turns is sacrificed to make the view down the centre of the track better.

This has engineering implications of course, these two new Halo's will have to go through the safety testing process all over again.

What do you guys think of this idea?

This will not alter the aero a bit? I think yes, but the teams agreed on that?

A solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Humans have two eyes and they are separated in such a way that a proximal thin central obstruction (like a halo) doesn't block the vision much at all. Try it yourself, point you hand like an arrow, put it between your eyes 40 cm in front of your face, and look into the distance straight ahead. No problemo.

A real good solution would be a new halo without the central pillar!

Check date .... not April first

Really, have you thought it through. As above, nothing missing from visual field due to human "design" feature of stereo type image acquired through two possible intake.

Hold a broom handle up in front of face at arms length (not critical) then successively close each eye alternately, you'll see that both singular image covers all of the detail behind the handle ... and with both eye open, then the combined is missing nothing from that straight ahead view

Don't waste your time "inventing" nothing of use.

It is possible but extremely heavy under the same deflection and toughness constraints because it would be a cantilevered design vs the present "fixed-fixed" type of support.

If thwre is a type of Carbon fibre (nano-tubes?) that can exert the same toughness as titanium it would be a good solution.

Your brain will build out the picture yes. This is a fact... However!!

It feels much different trust me versus having a clear view. Ask people who ride motorcycles or who where glasses all day.

So boring and lacking of vision! ( pun intended!!)

Nice however the angular field of focus is usually small in a fighter jet.. And they have thousands of feet to "adjust" their rections in a typical turn... But this is a good photo because we can look at fighter jet canopy improvementss to do just what we are talking about improving the field of view..

The F16 sported a bubble canopy. So there was no pillars to block the view of the pilot. Some niggling issues with distortion in the glass were there but that was solved.

The F35 has a bubble canopy but it also retains handle bar pillar for the pilots to grab on to and it hosues the explosive charge. But this aircraft is outfitted with technology that givws the pilot a full 360 view "through" the plane from his helmet. So visibility is still extremely important here.

But how many drivers have complained of the halo obstructing vision, exactly?
Of course they are super tough guys that would never bitch about small issues. /sarcasm off.
Rivals, not enemies.
