I'm really getting shades of 2010 here. So many different teams and drivers in the mix, but generally pretty poor races. Overall a huge step up from mid-late 2022 and 2023 however. I'm now seriously excited for every race in a way I wasn't in 2023.

I will be extremely disappointed if the drivers overtake into their status quo positions early on and there's not much happening after.

Almostt the entire grid is out of position though so there's going to be a lot of positions swapped.

I feel like the Ferraris and Hamilton are going to be consistently going forwards all race. This isn't going to be a 2010-esque race, but the season as a whole has been reminding me of it.

I don't think it's very relevant. Russell did a pole in the same condition (green track + low temp) in Hungary 2022. Lewis managed to get a pole in Hungary last year when nobody could make the tyre working. Canada, like Hungary (and Spain) is one of these track where Merc are strong every time. I don't think Russell will be able to do something against Max and the two McLaren tomorrow. He might even have to fight the Ferrari and his own teamate

F1Tv had a good screenshot of the telemetry. Max was ahead until turn 6/7. But max had to get out the throttle which lost any advantage. Got some time back at the chicane, but Russell got a tow up the last straight.

Marko was talking about it on German Sky as well. He said that Verstappen's out lap was too quick, and he paid for it in the final sector.

Could be. Not much reference yet and also the pressure was on.

yeah, sure, and he also didn't mention that Verstappen benefitted from it in sector 1, of course

Red Bull is very bad on curbs, this is a big problem, the RB20 is clearly inferior to the efficiency of the RB19

If I infer this plot as 'Russel running much smaller wing levels than Max' so might suffer with lesser tyre life than Max, will I be wrong ? Will be interesting to see Norris added to this plot.

Merc and Aston most likely were on glory runs
RedBull and Mclaren looked 'well settled' everywhere, except RB20 looking bad in the last chicane.
Ferrari were struggling with something, looked nothing like how they did in FP2. Dry track, so not tyres.
VCARB looked good.

Considering Merc is fastest in the corners, how do you suggest they were glory running?

Fuel? That certainly didn’t look to be the case given the number of laps performed.

They still need to put it together in qualifying, but that was the most real/commanding performance from them all year.

Redbull spending more time on throttle and brakes, and less time in corners than Merc.
Mostly likely it means Merc had turned up the engine more and Redbull was very conservative with braking input.

You were right, my bad. It wasn't engine mode afterall, in FP3.
Thank goodness I used "most likely" in my reasoning earlier.

Fine job by Mercedes, bringing up the car to where it's natural fighting area is - at the front. Looks like their decision to STOP EXPERIMENTING OVER THE RACE WEEKEND and make only small changes one by one, has paid dividends. Although this circuit is purely straight line + slow corners, no medium or high speed. The proof of the pudding will come at Barcelona. Nevertheless, better late than never. Credit where credit is due.

Will be a great opening lap tomorrow. In the track interview Max said in reply to tomorrow's lap1 T1 question - "we will think about it. I am not stressed". That sounded ominous, maybe race pace is the ace they have up their sleeve. From quali, there is nothing to separate the three teams at 1,2,3 grid spots.

VCARB is looking like RB19.
