Some strange things out of Q3. McLaren used a 2 lap warmup on both cars. Mercedes drivers both set their best laps on used softs, couldn't improve on new softs at the end. So it appears that the track dropped off in the last few minutes? Russell gained 2 tenths with his Albon slipstream. I eagerly await a good qual analysis from someone like Mark Hughes, and the forum of course!

Just watching again. Russell got a tow all along the straight from Albon, without it he'd be behind Piastri.
In fact, Max would not have taken pole if the Merc team had prepared its drivers better, Merc would have been about 0.2 ahead of Verstappen, Russell's time in Q2 was 11.7
Q2 had different conditions, there's no point going back and comparing I'm afraid.
Agreed

On his first run?
Yeah

Russell was 4kph slower on his second fastest lap on that same straight, was slightly faster all the way along and gained 1 tenth overall as it was a distant tow. But it is what it is. It's so close that small margins count but tomorrow I expect Mercedes to drop back behind us and Max.

If we finish where we start tomorrow and Ferrari can't progress, could be nice little chuck of points we can take away from Ferrari. Do we have any race pace info?.

Good qualifying. So far in all qualifying sessions both McLaren drivers have made it to Q3. 3rd and 4th position is quite good. The gaps are very minimal, which makes me happy. Let's see what kind of weather awaits us tomorrow.

Hoping for the best tomorrow but I have a feeling McLaren won’t break past the 200 point threshold tomorrow.
It’s probably going to be chaos. Safety cars (one or both of the Mclarens being the reason for said safety car[s]) numerous showers and pit stops etc

Or the much better scenario, McLaren doesn't benefit from a tow but is comfortably P1 regardless 8)

Correct.
After Landos win in Miami the next objective is pole, win and fastest lap 8)

Feels weird saying I'm not satisfied with at 3-4.. Anyway over the last few races in terms of performance Mclaren seem to be the most consistent of the teams at the front (also because we have two brilliant drivers).. While we are for sure running more DF I don't know if I want it to rain, it would be nice to consolidate this advantage in both the drivers and constructors to Ferrari.. Funnily rewind a few months when we were in the midfield I loved rain sessions because it gave us opportunities, now it feels like there's more to lose.

The graining looked quite significant in FP3, in perfectly dry conditions I don't see us overtaking, so tomorrow It will be important to build a tyre delta, and hopefully have better wear to extend.

Jeez...
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Yeah true, not sure where I saw the 4kph, must have selected the wrong lap.

It was quite distant, but still quite beneficial and the gain was actual .17

Ahhhh, selecting the fastest lap took a lap from Q2, that'll be why I compared the wrong laps.

So yeah, anyway, as I was saying, Russell was on pole due to the tow.
