Horner about Perez. "It was disappointing for Checo to miss out by such a small margin in Q1
as he struggled with the rear grip in the car.
We’ll have to look into the reasons for that so that we can give him the best chance of coming through the field tomorrow,
which we know he’s capable of."
.
The reason for that is the driver as always!! Yeah, let's keep him for two more years!! #-o

Dare say race pace looks good compared to the others.
Mess with the Bull - you get the horns.

Never trust an official F1 graph.

Even looking at the telemetry from the long runs, looks like we had a little in reserve. Did post some graphs in the Canada race thread.

Yeah in the long run the engine was quite down as usual, nevertheless those data from F1 are completely random, nothing to go by

I expect a very strong McLaren

Surprising underperformance from Max not to take the pole in perfect conditions for RB20. But Marko will be there, ready and waiting, with another set of excuses if Max doesn't win today
AeroGimli.x

And they call it a stall. A STALL!

Underperforming? Love to know how you come up with that one considering 'perfect conditions'. Especially on a track they were thinking they would struggle with because of the kerbs.

He did effectively get pole, considering the same time.

Red Bull is very bad on curbs, this is a big problem, the RB20 is clearly inferior to the efficiency of the RB19
Yeah, how did that happen? :?: RB18 was reasonable on kerbs IIRC.

I guess it's to do with 15mm raised floor edge (and/or increased load test for outer floor corner to prevent flexing) and thus chasing the recovery of 2022 ground effect with stiffer setups and lower ride heights?

Perez cannot handle the 'all or nothing' pressure of a single allocation lap
But Perez is a professional Grand Prix racing driver? :)

In any case, RBR back Perez as being an ace, so that's good enough for me. 8)
It is quite possible that, at the same time, the RB20 is also less efficient aerodynamically, not the colossal advantage with the DRS open, the RB19 was so effective that they removed the wings loaded, but they knew that this was compensated through the DRS

he wouldn’t have gotten anything, it was Merc who took a couple of tenths from himself, as if he left very late, on paper Montreal looked pretty good, but you need to understand that efficiency of the RB19 is no longer there, maybe Verstappen will win the race today, but it seems to me Merc has especially improved quite strongly, while Merce has not yet updated only its diffuser, in comparison with the others it looks quite simple so far

Did you watch quali? Merc were putting in 1.11.7s in Q2, 2-3 tenths faster than eventual pole time and Russell got pole on used tyres. If anything the Mercs underperformed in Q3 on their new tyres and apart from that it shook out as we should've expected if the Merc was fastest

What other conclusion should we make if the Merc is fastest in fp3, Q1, Q2 and gets pole on used tyres?

But it does look like Merc are running less downforce. Could be costly with high degradation and rain possible

Make this make sense. Why not Mercedes on top?

Just watching the cars, I think Mercedes has done something to their engine. It's running harder. The RB20 still has its efficiency as a plus. The curbs for sure especially the last corner is a weakness, but everything else looks good for Max in all the qually sesions, not just the last run. Russel is strong as well and Hamilton, but the latter is in P7. We will have a nice close race on our hands if Max stays within DRS range.
McLaren are the dark horses. Don't be surprised if they smoke both Russel and Max.

Im saying to stick a whole new PU and components into Perez car and start from the back. Adds a extra set of components into the pool on a not too damaging weekend. Chances are some of the ones suffered damage in Monaco, so the additional ones would be a decent help.

Evil voice in me says it might still be wise to start him from the pit Perez doesn't handle grid starts well
