Of course he was. 2s faster on a harder tyre than Max who was on a high fuel run.
1. I'm not saying he had the same fuel load as Max or anyone else, because I said I'm not comparing his lap times to any other car, just based on his lap times and onboard car behaviour over that run.
2. Being on a softer tyre for a stint doesn't mean you should lap faster anyway, especially when you are lapping on a track temp. of 48 degrees on a highly abrasive track surface.
The wear on LHS front is predicted as being such that 3 stops will be common. This will be a areal challenge for Oscar at his stage of development. Will the soft be going off early on a qualifying lap, maybe medium the faster over a lap?
Soft would still be ideal quali.
A medium may yield more time in the final part of the track, but you offset it with what you gain through the first part with the extra grip soft, all the drivers will just do very slow outlaps, and will need to avoid corrections throughout the first part to keep the tyres in a good window for the remaining sector.
