Stella on the chequered flag is going really in on the racing stewarding. Clearly stating that not going hard enough on both Lewis and Max in 2021 has led to this driving.

Definitely, also Anthony Davidson has just pulled up the clip of Max overtaking Charles in 2019 where Max was the one who did the inside lunge but this time he thinks he was pushed off and was correct in not ceding the position. I've got a lot of respect for Max, he's clearly the fastest driver on the grid at the moment but because of his history with track battles, he has got several references against him of hard racing that that ultimately will be used against him when he is the one being chased. His made his bed, time to lie in it.

Right. It's very rich for Red Bull to complain about dive bombs from others. That team invented the "full send" from Ricciardo and Max "fully sent" it a billion times in his career so far, and plenty of those with contact or push offs. Charles in 2019 is just the last time he did in Austria, but there's a track by track collection of debatable moves by him. And in all this, Max took out Lando and still finished in the points with fastest time with a net gain on Lando for WDC, so still a positive weekend despite the lack of win.

The real guilty part anyway is the Stewards and how they choose to apply the rules. Not even warned Max on moving under braking before the contact despite having happened already a few laps earlier already.

I genuinely believe that McLaren might take the constructors here. Perez is not making a comeback this season.

He was pushed off with nowhere to go. Could argue Norris was ahead and had the right, but if so it was close. They decided to keep him on, could have been a 5s penalty - negating the one that Norris was also getting.

Max could have backed out and ceded the place. That is how drivers are judged now. Generally dive bombs are allowed these days as long as the overtaking car makes the corner which Norris did.

Ironically it was max himself who popularised these sorts of overtakes heavily in 2020/2021 and change the view of the stewards to allow this sort of racing.

This is what is also on my mind. Everything Lando did this race Max has done and even more, if anything he has been the reason why racing has become like this since he joined the grid. I will say it's certainly not a bad thing at all, but the stewards need to just step up and show that this driving conduct cannot stand.

Exactly. This is precisely the stuff that started Horner's repeated calls of "let them race" and the slipping of stewarding standards.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Max not spending long enough in feeder series and learning clean wheel to wheel racing has resulted in his “yield or we both crash” mindset. He’s not had to race recently due to the RB20/19/18 dominance but as soon as he’s tested he falls short. Again.

And you are not allowed to do that. There is no racing line that a driver is magically entitled to regardless of his previous action.

The amazing thing about this move, is that it completely exposes Red Bull/Horner/Max and their die hard fans cognitive dissonance because they believe:

A: Max was in the right to do this exact same thing to LeClerc in 2019 for the race win because it's just hard racing

And

B: Max should've given the place to Lando because they believe Lewis should've given the place to Max at the start of Abu Dhabi 2021.

For anyone wondering, Lando didn't correctly serve his penalty in the pits. However, it was applied at the end of the race by the stewards because he still was a classified finisher so he won't get any penalty for Silverstone. Guess Perez didn't do this as his retirement was much earlier into the Japan GP.

At which point does the forcing another driver off track come into it though. I know theres the apex thing for the inside which is below:

For overtaking on the inside of a corner a driver must be given room if they satisfy the following conditions:

Have their front axle at least alongside the mirror of the other car no later than the apex of the corner
Be driven in a safe and controlled manner throughout the manoeuvre (which includes the entry, apex and exit)
Without (deliberately) forcing the other car off the track at the exit, which includes leaving a fair and acceptable width for the car being overtaken from the apex to the exit of the corner
Be able to make the corner within the track limits

How does that work? Dont think we have seen his happen in the past. Totally negates the 3 place grid drop to next race rule.

This ruleset is not working. I don't know if FIA doesn't know what they are doing or what is going on. I get it can be hard to rulemake how to serve the penalty properly but these games like Perez or Lando here are a mockery of the rules.

The stewards would have taken what happened into account for the decision. I think it would have been unfair on Lando to be penalised for something that was outside of his control - not finishing the race.

As for Max? If he'd let Lando through, kept him within 5 seconds, he'd have won the race. It's what makes the whole thing so stupid.
