This is such an obvious, and simple, solution one wonders why it's not adopted at every track where this issue is present. A small concrete trench shaped so that it can be emptied and covered with suitable concrete panels if required.
Indeed, it is an elegant solution. I know many circuits hate using gravel as permanent solution since track-day enthusiasts hate getting their cars wrecked when they go out. For F1, the gravel is enough of a deterrent to prevent drivers taking the mickey but not so bad that a genuine run-wide moment isn't a car wrecking moment (we hope).
