And I found changes. Where the Dell inscription is, there is an additional outlet for hot air. The suspension pushrod is attached approximately in the same area.

The whole engine cover is significantly slimmed down, despite having described it on the documents as just a change in terms of the louvres/outlets :mrgreen:

Some more close ups of the car. Nothing new here but some nice shots anyway. Nice big beam wing at the back, almost a complete extension of the diffuser, it looks quite sizeable.

Do Mclaren run typically bigger beam wings now?

Would explain some of the DRS speed, trading diffuser efficiency for outright top speed.

So, is Norris running an old spec floor or not? Common sense, and the timing sheets yesterday, would suggest not.

Both cars were certainly running the pre-Austria FW in P3.

According to Franck Montagny , McLaren used a trick consisting of attaching the rear fixings of the floor to the exhaust, in order to exploit the heat emitted by it to expand the carbon and thus improve performance.

let me tell you mainly about this trick, it’s not about expanding, but more about conducting the heat to the diffuser which Lowers the air density and raises viscosity, It will help creating a lower pressure in the diffuser and faster flow across the throat.

Look at the pictures below McLaren actually fixed the clips on the exhaust.

That doesn’t make any sense and I’m not buying that theory, at all.

You know F1 cars make less downforce in Mexico, LeMans cars go faster at night, and air can get so hot / lose enough density that aircraft can’t take off, right?

And this assumes you reduce density from convection evenly through the entire air column (you don’t).

I’m extremely skeptical of this statement. There’s far more surface area on the stay just in the air than touching the diffuser, so if it’s energizing any air it’s the air going through the beam wing. There’s also no way there’s an appreciable amount of energy being transferred to the air. I don’t even think it’s worth doing the math to calculate the negligible amount of energy being transferred to the air.

What I think is more likely is that this is the least intrusive place to put a stay and/or there’s an important synergy of the diffuser and exhaust and having them being an exact and constant distance from each other is helpful
