Yep. Strategy would have worked to be fair. Although so would staying out and was safer and probably better. But not by the margin everyone suggests.

He evaluated it at Silverstone. It's Max. Max wants you to fear the overtake and he'll make you fear it every time he can.FittingMechanics wrote: ↑28 Jul 2024, 16:37McLaren severely underestimated the tires. If Russell could do it then surely Norris could have gone long. Worst case he ends up around Perez or Sainz. But still, tough race. The low downforce setup didn't seem to help that much as tires were durable so most drivers could push.
Good work by Piastri. A shame Norris couldn't push his way alongside Verstappen, get him to start evaluating how much risk he is willing to take.
It was the sum of mistakes snd misfortunes. Leclerc alone cost him aditional 2 seconds.mwillems wrote: ↑28 Jul 2024, 16:33Worth bearing in mind, Oscar would have been straight into DRS of Lec if he'd nailed his stop. 2 seconds lost would have got him to Ham by lap 42. Except he'd not have fought Lec for so long, so probably sooner.
Strategy might have still won it. Could have been on the Metcs with 3 or 4 laps to attack.
It's why I wouldn't be so hard on strategy. 4 seconds closer with a faster car. It could have been Oscar's.proteus wrote: ↑28 Jul 2024, 16:40It was the sum of mistakes snd misfortunes. Indeed. I must admit i thought George would get eaten by lap 40...mwillems wrote: ↑28 Jul 2024, 16:42It's why I wouldn't be so hard on strategy. 4 seconds closer with a faster car. Piastri had a 5 second lead over Russell as when he stopped for the second time…. Lando had 4 laps fresher tyres than Oscar.FittingMechanics wrote: ↑28 Jul 2024, 16:37McLaren severely underestimated the tires. If Russell could do it then surely Norris could have gone long.
