Didnt Merecedes even deliberately try to cheat and hide the fact by leaving fuel in the car, so it weighed 798kg when its supposed to be drained? If so the team should be punished more than just the DQ...
Yeah that's interesting, I wonder if they were taking the fuel out and as it approached the minimum weight they stopped and said "that's all". Must've been a funny scene.

Russell will certainly be disqualified, it's virtually impossible to get around a technical breach but I'm absolutely fascinated by how Mercedes could have managed such a simple mistake.

Is this even a good argument for the stewards ?

They probably expected to run a few laps in DRS, didn't expect to be so fast, didn't calibrate the fuel changes accurately after the spec rollback in FP sessions. Many things could've led to this but I don't think the Stewards will be sympathetic.

The argument for cool down lap is interesting because it means the marble collected would've offset the fuel burning

No.

Fuel burning is just not part of this.

In fact Russell spent most of his first stint in DRS zone of Perez
Hamilton was in clear air for most of the race and the weight is ok.

Really not understand what happened

Forget fuel, the minimum weight is without any fuel (but with driver).

Could you explain to me the thing with fuel, and why it might be "deliberate cheating" according to some ?

Fuel really has nothing to play here.

The car must be EMPTY of fuel to check it's weight.

The car needs to weigh minimum 798kg with the fuel drained. The FIA document says mercedes didn't drain all the fuel (so it weighed 798), so that implies they tried to cheat and hide the fact that the car was underweight

Yeah so there is something literally missing from the car.

Either different chassis to Hamilton or missing ballast, which then would beg the question why one car has more ballast or different chassis?

And if it isn't that I can only assume it's plank that is worn enough to lose 1.5kg and still be legal somehow????

It's confusing.

Responsibility of MB crew to extract the fuel at end, if they realised it was going to be under weight, then told the stewards that's all they could get out of the system...... knowing they've left some in there deliberately to make up to minimum weight, then that's fraudulent.

The thing I didn't understand was that they must be aware the usual procedure of the FIA imply to remove the "excess" fuel left in the car for the 798 kg measure
