Leclerc really struggled with the handling T1-2. He was much better than Sainz in S2 and S3, he lost everything at those 2 turns. Ouch.

Post-qualifying radio:

Charles: “---.”

Bryan: “Norris pole.”

Charles: “I don’t care. I’m pissed. The car is so --- --- in the slow speed.”
ouch

Baffling how this team every race weekend for last 3 years cant improve and adjust balance from fri to sat.
they have improved, continue to show improvement even after they have a small fall. stop overreacting.

The main thing is to leave panic, we have a better car in the races than in the quali, it's not evening yet.

Both drivers maximized what the car could do today it feels, even though Charles was butting up against front limitation again. Pretty close. Russel will be a problem but hopefully the pace is good for a podium or two.

Before the update, +0.909 to Norris in Zandvoort.
After the update, +0.134.
So yeah, no improvement at all.

All positive. Charles was fuming at P4, Bryan said they were losing .180s in T1-2, seems like the slow speed is an issue. However, hopefully those laps on used Soft in FP3 point to strong tire performance for the race. Only worry is being bottled up by George in the first stint and not being able to fight with Mclaren (if the race pace is there).
Sainz was ahead of Norris after S2(only just) and loses a lot in S3.
Seems like Charles is the opposite, they must've gone in different directions setup wise.

Waiting to see lap comparisons.

Hopefully the car good tire usage has been preserved.

That's not how it works... they would be even better in Singapore, would that be because of the upgrade as well?

If they ran two races back to back at Zandvoort, then you can make that comparasion, otherwise it's a usless thing.

So you think a bouncing SF24 in Monza would have done just as well?

Great job from the drivers and it's good to see how close is one of the best driver lineups on the grid. Next year is a step into uncharted territory driver wise so I'm not fully convinced despite the world championships. I liked this Leclerc-Sainz dynamic but maybe I'm just too conservative

Let's be honest man... 0.8s smaller gap isn't because the track is a bit different, check Jeddah where Charles was 0.3s behind Max, where is Red Bull now? Or Silverstone where LEC was out in Q2 and Sainz was 0.7s off Russell.

The gain is real, we're still not that good in quali but you cannot miss the gain.

Leclerc interview to Canal+:

We're just not fast enough. I'm frustrated because we had the same balance issues at T1-2 all weekend but we weren't able to fix it. We couldn't expect much more, and it's frustrating. I'm disappointed, but I guess it's like this.

The frustration is worse at Monza because we brought developments specifically for this track, and even that isn't enough to reach McLaren. There's still a lot of work for us to do, that's all there is to say.
His patented "it's like this" is back... both drivers look incredibly disappointed post-qualifying. Whether more was on the table or not, it's clear they expected more.

I don't have the exact quote, but Sainz said in his interview that in order to make up for the issues in S1 he pushed more which killed his tires, hence his low S2/S3 times compared to Leclerc. Considering even he of all people was vocally annoyed by the understeer, it must have been stifling them a lot.

Fortunately, it shouldn't be as much of an issue in the race.
