According to the AMuS FP2 analysis (quoting Marko), Red Bull used two different kind of floors today. The one Perez had resulted in a more predictable car behaviour.
Verstappen had to keep it out of the wall on at least 2 occasions.

Things look like they'll be tight. McLaren again don't look super
Impossible to know how much teams have in their pockets and who's playing a bit of poker right now.

Lando is projecting "unhappy", Perez is happy.

If previous race weekends are anything to go by, it is clear by FP2 if there are any performance outliers in the race sims. The advantage of Mclaren was obvious from the race sims in Hungary and Zandvoort.

Has anyone looked at the laps of Max compared to Lando on the FP2 long runs? Looks like Max is heavily losing speed which looks like engine more or something. Really evident on the straights.

Max and Carlos basically the same curve.

Lando clearly pushing more.

A very interesting fuel run comparison :
(of course with the proviso - unknown engine modes, fuel loads)

Image

- the difference in castle section doesn't look normal, probably LEC slowed down by traffic.
- the interesting thing is the 'trend' before and 'trend' after the castle section : steady time gain by Ferrari ; which is pointing to either much heavier fuel or much lower engine mode for Redbull. Because the time 'made up' by Ferrari over this before/after is 2.1 to 2.2s.

If we remove the castle section altogether from the laptime, we are looking at 10/12 x 1:49 ~= 1:31 laptime. In which case, a delta of 2.2s means 2.4% of laptime difference. While this % delta could be easily governed with fuel loads, what does that mean, in terms of 'turning down' engines ? Is this "2.4% more laptime" a realistic way how teams play with engine modes ? I have no reference, hence asking.

Leclerc did not pit for fuel after his hot lap, so I don't think it's really possible to read much into those laps afterwards. It's a comparison of cars at totally different weight.

These are long runs with fuel on board, on the M tyre. He came into pits after the hot lap on S. Are you saying they just changed tyres and that his S hotlap was with fuel load ?

Aston, Mclaren, Alpine and maybe some other with more wing today. Looks like the track is very different to the years before.

they just changed tires, yes. He wasn't even pushed into the pits. There was no time left to get the car prepared for a high fuel run, so fuel loads were the same for his hot lap and the "longrun".

McLaren often does the same in FP1, so it seems to be a way to somehow simulate race behaviour, but from the outside, it's almost impossible to judge the quality of those kind of laps.

I hate all this stupid talk about team orders and swapping driver positions by these guys in the commentary especially Karun. Come on focus on the action on track.

So Russell has had limited running yet is spanking Hamilton in P3 again.
“And that’s part of the game, is being able to be adaptive, and we’ve got this new car – I don’t know how it’s going to handle, hopefully she’s great.”

Ham ran into traffic on two of his attempts on the fresh softs and abandoned the third lap
