I don't think I've ever seen what Lando's done today, if it's not a red flag and it is your last chance in a session, you floor it and try to work it out later if someone makes it an issue. Vettel overtook while yellows were on in Brazil 2012 but got away with it on a technicality
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

The yellows are an excuse imho. I just watched it and he is 0.2s at s2 which is right before the corner where he went wide and then he aborted. I think the lifting, the error in the corner and mentally he must have given up at that point, he had 0.5s+ of margin to p15 given his s1+s2 delta.

Nah, he floored it after T16 mistake and gave up seeing that Alpine slow down. He had everything to gain and nothing to lose by finishing his lap and he made the wrong call... Really bad under pressure, he needs a good psychologist to help him with a bit of mentality shift

Ah need to rewatch his onboard then, I think you are right.

This is his lap compared to LEC. He definitely floored after T16 and he totally lifted for multiple seconds and downshifted on the straight during the slowdown, wow yeah never seen this before. I still think he gave up mentally and we agree on that.

I think that is only a problem with F1-tempo. dialtone doesn't use F1-tempo.

Honestly, you see it right away if a driver has the right mentality for any season-long fight or not. Hamilton was cheeky more than once with Alonso in 07, Max won his first race with RBR, Leclerc was really hard on Vettel, Piastri's also fighting Norris very hard on every occasion. You gotta push to the limit, dance on that edge and put a smile after the race for triple effect - look victorious, happy and charming to make sure everyone knows it... Eventually, even your worst opponents admire you

As AR3 says, I don't use F1-tempo, but it also depends on the track and where the team is placed in the pits.

In this case the difference between pitlane and track in terms of length of track is minimal so it doesn't ruin the timing alignment that much and the MCL crosses the timing line in the pits so lap is counted.

But even if the display isn't 100% correct, between what we know from TV (he was 0.2s behind LEC in S2 which you can see from the times +0.233, -0.033) and you can compare the normal behavior of a car there with LEC against NOR who lifted and downshifted.

Marko says Verstappen's turn 16 mistake cost him 6 tenths at least (= P2), and confidence for the 2nd run. Tomorrow he expects a podium, and the 2nd set of hards only to come in play in case of a safety car.
Nonsense. 3.5 tenths at most
his sector 3 was 0.576s slower than in Q2, so although deployment, tire management, slipstream etc plays a part as well, 6 tenths doesn't sound too unreasonable.

Maybe I have the wrong lap, but what mistake in T16?

Max as about 45* to the track on the exit of T16 on one of his quali runs.

it's the wrong lap, yeah. It happened during his first Q3 attempt.

And thanks for the aborted lap explanation. Makes sense.
