American GP Upgrade Analysis:

McLaren
Andrea Stella’s team have brought the most updates this weekend, with a total of 7 new parts. These feature 4 performance upgrades and 3 circuit-specific ones, marking the beginning of McLaren’s final development phase this season.

The most notable changes to the MCL38 this weekend are to the front suspension and front wing, which are both intended to improve airflow characteristics and increase aerodynamic load.

Mercedes
Mercedes bring 6 upgrades, including 4 performance updates and 2 circuit-specific ones. As reported previously by LWOS, this weekend’s package is significant – featuring a new floor on the W15.

This is Mercedes’ first floor update since the first half of the season.

The Silver Arrows will hope for a significant step forward, having also re-profiled their front suspension to improve airflow through the car. These are some of their biggest changes of the year, and will establish key foundations of their 2025 package.

Red Bull
Red Bull have a relatively small update package this weekend, with just two new components. The RB20 will be fitted with a new floor edge and engine cover this weekend.

These modifications represent the product of intensive work at Milton Keynes to develop a more stable car. After an encouraging race (in terms of drivability) in Singapore, Red Bull are optimistic they can add downforce without sacrificing stability.

Alpine looks super similar to McLaren. Whoever designed the livery was having a joke.

Gasly had a spin in T1 and I was sure it was McLaren with red/pink flowwiz on rear wing.

They don't look that great, but let's see how it turns out after sprint quali.

Messy session. Norris had a little issue that kept him in the pits in the middle of the session.

Hard to really read it, but they definitely didn't get everything out of the car.

only 2 hundredths from VER for NOR despite a big off? Seems like a struggle to stay on track for everyone but no way this is our true pace and we are only 0.2s ahead of a Haas

Max set that lap half an hour before. The only comparable reference is Leclerc, who had to do two warmup laps on that tire and he was 0.25s ahead anyway.

I can't say anything about practice yet. I'd rather wait for the sprint qualification to go.

They dont wear their rear tyres out until the race. Thats when McLaren have had an advantage in the past.

It’s gonna look tight all weekend till we get to the half way through the main race.

Drivers were complaining about bottoming so they will probably change the setup going forward. Top speed was quite low in the earlier runs, but it seems like they were running a very low PU mode on the hards and it was better on the soft run.

Still, the biggest problem is minimum speed on T1, which remained a big weakness in hards as well as the fastest laps on the softs :

Damn it.

Mclaren have had to make modifications to their full range of rear wings regarding the ‘mini drs’
