Max set a mighty lap with lower PU than Ferrari and McLaren had later on. Also did it on a lot greener track. Could very easily sweep the rest of the weekend
It's only fp1 others will find more time for sure. But the car looks good from the beginning of the weekend which is rare for the rb20

Updates are more made for Max not Perez.
Quite to the contrary. The updates are aimed at reducing the instability that hurts Checo more than Max
Yeah but with my eyes I saw Max had the fastest first sector. Which usually means the car has a good front-end grip in medium-high speed corners.
Max is the fastest driver in high speed corners individually. We've seen far too many evidences of that by now to ignore this fact.

Red Bull are currently demonstrating openly to the FIA in the pit garage right now how the device the front of the car works.
FIA seals are now being added to the car.
tedkravitz - now thinks (after seeing it) that there’s no way this could have been done without the FIA knowing.
MBrundleF1 - no evidence that this has been used incorrectly, but if it has been - that’s not innovation, that’s cheating

Don't get fooled by free practice results guys. Norris lost 3.5 tenths in one corner alone when he made a big mistake and went completely off in 12.

It's incredible even to think about, but since a while, Kravitz looks like the most sane member of Sky F1 crew.

This certainly feels like a stunt by red bull to show just how obvious it is that it’s all a storm in a teacup

  how have the times changed....
The most openly-hate-Redbull guy in the Sky crew seems the most sensible one of late.

I mean of course they are fully aware how damaging all the accusation of cheating are...it would be anyone's first priority to stop this as soon as possible. Meanwhile the team, that was actually cheating (getting a green flag from the FIA for a while) and winning races with illegal car got was never talked about in such manner.

Was there any explanation for why the team went to the soft tires so early in the practice session?

Probably to get it out the way while the track was quiet, I imagine they were focused on tuning things in than being 1st in the session

May be to have a feel of the balance at higher corner speeds / low fuel. Especially then instability of the balance (or the sealing of the floor under yaw) could be evaluated better.

From my memory, this is not that unusual for Red Bull. They often times are out of sync with other teams. I wouldn't read into it much.

I think it was more than out of sync. Other teams went in and out from the pit doing multiple stints on hard tyres, only putting softs for the last 10 minutes or so.
Red Bull just did 1 stint on hard, then went to the pit for 10-15 minutes and came out on softs for the rest of the session.
It was a different program.
