Sainz may choose to give max and Leclerc a tow rather than Lando
If Sainz keeps it straight and doesn't move out of place, then Lando gets the tow. Before the braking though, Sainz might move to keep inside line. Alternatively, If Sainz moves right and then Max moves left, then Max can steal it. Sainz is desperate to win another race before he leaves Ferrari and this is his best chance. So he would have calculated who has the better chance to overtake him and may play that way.
Sainz has nothing to lose and can choose to brake as late as he can, after grabbing the inside line. He knows Max and Norris won't risk a DNF.
TBH, I expect Sainz to either crash (taking either Max or Norris with him) or keep the lead, and expect LeClerc and Russel to gain a place or two.
While the first 4/5 grid slots grab all the attention for lap1 T1, I expect to see a proper skirmish between P11 and P12 - Tsunoda v Lawson. One is a volcano waiting to explode and the other is for all practical purposes a rookie keen to impress. If these two are back-to-back after T1, expect a spectacular battle in the first 3-4 laps.
While I can see, and agree that Sainz hasn't got to consider risk in different for pure championship terms, its of significant value to him in his longer term future to stay in the race I believe.
A good period at end of season for Ferrari will hugely raise his integrity profile in difficult personal circumstances for him. This in itself will add to his career prospect. There's clearly good relationship with FV etc even though the decision to eject him is made. Statements of "door being left open" longer term may have good consequences.
Although committed to Williams now, he's ultimately going to have enhanced value across any team in future with credibility, performance and loyalty promoted.
I think he'll be hard but intelligent in 1st lap approach, race pace and strategy playing out just as important as that first lap.
We'll find out soon though, alot of different tensions across those front running drivers, as a good sport should have. Looking forward to the start.
