Could be a turning point in Lando's battle with Max. Lando, we all know, had to toughen up and there's good signs in this
https://racingnews365.com/verstappen-go ... him-norris

"It's always going to be on the line. It's always going to be tough with Max. He's never going to make anyone's life easy, especially mine, at this point of the year. It was not fair, clean racing, and therefore, I think he got what he had coming to him."

Go get him Lando.

The optimism of the new floor on the Red Bull at Austin has evaporated. Max had some bitter words about his race and didn't dwell on the penalties, only the car - too slow, too hard on it's tyres. At Mexico it was arguably the 4th fastest car for race pace and next week at Interlagos (Brazil) he will take a 5 place grid drop if we are to believe reports. That could be problematic if grip and degradation become an issue for him again.
Verstappen accepted the decisions quite calmly. He was probably willing to crash.

1.80s in Qatar 2023 - famous one with the Alfa mechanic looking at the McLaren pitstop.

I think 1.9s was the fastest one this year. Great to see the team on top of pitstops as well. Every bit could matted.

Btw, maybe the bib thing really was used. Red Bull race pace looks quite bad ever since.

It definitely smells fishy. Last two races Max has had really good qualifying pace but he has been completely off in the race.

Yet people thought McLaren was chasing ghosts to deter attention from their mini DRS which when you take Mexico as a reference, it has evidently shown it wasn’t worth anything significant.

Will Oscar finally wake up this weekend from the hibernation he is in the last few races?

He is so decided to not help Lando, that he prefers to stays uncompetitive.

I've been thinking that maybe it is because their car specs are not the same because Norris got the upgrade (in Austin wing, now floor). I seem to remember that Piastri usually struggles when Norris gets the upgrades. This "next week I get the upgrades so it will be better" is not first time I heard it.

Maybe he is not as good at getting the best setup of the car on his own so when Norris is on a different car spec it ends up being a bigger issue than on normal weekends where he can follow Norris lead on setup. I've seen that he is very often coached over the radio about where he can get extract more laptime, I am sure this is compared to Norris.

Maybe someone else remembers other times Piastri struggled and whether it correlates.

Andrea Stella said that Piastri will have the upgrades in Brazil so hopefully he bounces back.

This puts the team fight for the constructors in jeopardy, for me this behavior is not acceptable.

Yesterday, with 12 laps newer tires, he could not close the gap to MAG in the HAAS, he only was able to do once MAG hit traffic, what a waste of a race weekend and points.

To my understanding, the team only tested the updates, they did not raced them, Norris confirmed the same after qualy in Texas, also for this race PIA was able to match Lando all weekend till he decided not to.

In the race debrief (video) I think it is clear that Norris raced with the upgrades and that Piastri did not. Stella went out of his way to say that Piastri will get the upgrade in Brazil.

Here it is in the race report from the website:
"Lando raced our upgraded car this weekend, and once again I’d like to say a big thank you to the Technical Department for preparing this car and to the entire team for getting it to the track.

Oscar will also have the upgrade in Brazil. He drove a beautiful race today. It wasn’t easy to get through the field, but he was patient when he needed to be and brought home some useful points. Those could be critical at the end of the season, because this championship is going to the wire.

"Now we focus on São Paulo. We’re looking forward to another entertaining race with Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes. This is good for Formula One – and we’re having fun!"

My upgrades comment was for Texas, here again PIA matched NOR in pace all weekend untill he decided he did not want to, are you saying that the Mclaren on a 12 laps newer tires is slower than Haas? PIA and his manager are playing a stupid game, they will runin the teams chances for Championship just to prove a point.

I really don't think Piastri is doing this on purpose. He is hurting his chances if he does this. Bortoleto looks good in F2, I'm sure plenty of other drivers would love to jump into a McLaren nowadays so I am not convinced it is being done on purpose. Zak sacked Ricciardo and paid out a hefty sum, I'm sure he can get Piastri out of that seat if he senses anything fishy.

What it could be is that Piastri just had his motivation sapped by being told he needs to support Norris. This could be subconscious, but I am not convinced by that either as he did show plenty of aggression in trying to go through the field.

Be objective. It's not about the updates. It's about Oscar's own mistakes. Oscar himself even admitted it after the race. His time in third practice was 1.16.492, right? He could have done it again in qualifying, if he hadn't done that nonsense. Lando's qualifying time was 1:16.260 in Q3.
