Re: Colapinto to RBR
I've gone through grief > anger > acceptance.

It would be a shame if factional battles (Colapinto aligned with Horner, Lawson aligned with Marko) and desire for money results in RBR choosing Colapinto over Lawson, despite Colapinto not being significantly more impressive than Lawson.

Hopefully the rumours are untrue though!
Choosing Colapinto would be exactly the rushed decision that Red Bull loves to do.

Great news Max might start from p20, Lando from p1. Only because of incompetent FIA. Cmon give Max least a chance to fight. This is not a sport anymore, its a show.

Now I really pray for heavy rain to cancel the race for tomorrow.

Incompetent FIA? While I agree they do show traits of incompetence at times I fail to see how this is one of those times. Sort of hard to do anything about rain storms.

Also weren’t you saying in a previous post that you wouldn’t mind it if they cancel a race because of rain. So you’re ok if luck with weather swings in redbull’s/max’s favour but not ok if swings in mclarens/landos? Quite hypocritical if you ask me.

It would be up to the stewards but it's unlikely they'd use fp1 order rather than the sprint qualifying order, in my view

Surely it's much better to have this GP canceled and serve the penalty at Vegas.
it's much better to have a wet race and go and win it.

well it would be even better to go straight to Abu Dhabi with the title locked, but we have to face reality.

Nah, Id love to see it coming to the wire.
Abu-dhabi finale and the final lap in particular was incredible, as a sporting fan I've never felt anything like that before. To experience something remotely similar would be incredible. and for Max he would enjoy such win a whole lot more. Past few years the celebrations were sort of muted due to the fact it was expected and also circumstances, like when he was told in Japan during the interview he is the champion. I could image that sucks.
and if he loses in the final race, well..it would be a huge experience as well

Unlikely but in the event the race is cancelled tomorrow what happens to the grid penalty for Max's engine change?
I believe grid penalties are served at the first GP where the items are used, so he would serve it in the Vegas GP.
Hmm...he has a grid penalty for Brazil. I do not think it will carry over if the race is canceled, there is nothing in the rule that may support this. In contrast, penalties for engine parts are not supposed to carry over in any way according to the rules.

the rules are pretty clear indeed:

"Should a driver use more Power Unit elements than the numbers prescribed in Article 28.2 of any one of the elements during a Championship, a grid place penalty for the race will be imposed upon him at the first Competition during which each additional element is used."

so unless "Competition" means "race" (which I don't think it does), Verstappen's penalty would not carry over. For someone adding a PU now it would be a different story, though, as the first competition it would be "used" at then would be the next one.

Of course it means race otherwise they would have given the penalty in sprint race.

no, that goes back to a different part of the rulebook:

"The first time an additional element is used: Ten (10) grid place penalty for the race."

edit: it's actually explained in the rules as well. "Competition" means whole weekend

"Competition means any competition entered into the FIA Formula One Championship Calendar for any year commencing four (4) hours before P1 is scheduled to start and ending at the time for the lodging of a protest under the terms of the Code or the time when a technical or sporting certification has been carried out under the terms of the Code, whichever is the later."

It’s almost endearing that you folks believe that he will skip a penalty if they don’t race here.

I edited my post above for more clarity, and it's solely based on the rules. I don't care at all who it is about.

It does sound like a loophole but is the penalty that was imposed really served if the race is cancelled?

Surely not. So I think it carries over.

If you don't serve a penalty it carries over.
