Sainz
It's by far the best of the available drivers, I cannot understand why they didn't just sign him as soon as he got the boot from Ferrari.

They want to have someone who is good, but not too good as it will change team dynamics. Hence Sainz is not someone you want next to Max. Tsunoda and Lawson seem better, as they are a bit below Sainz in my opinion. I am not sure Tsunoda and Lawson want to play the team game however, at least they are showing to be very aggressive.

They also want someone to bring in a good amount of sponsor money.
Tsunoda and Lawson don't bring a lot of sponsor money. Hence I think they are now considering Colapinto.

He is a risky option, but considering that he brings the money and is probably willing to be Max' number 2 he could be of interest.

Sainz is that guy who is perfectly capable of 'winning' when the 'main driver' is having an off day. Ferrari have committed a blunder by letting him go. He is not going to perform miracles at Williams, that team will take years to produce a 'winnable car'. Someone of the talent of Sainz not finding a seat in a frontline team, is disaster. Redbull had a great opportunity, and missed it. The toughest driving job in F1 is being Max's partner. Sainz has experience going toe-to-toe with LeClerc (in fact, I think Sainz has developed tremendously since his Mclaren release, mainly because he is an astute student who studies data well and has benefitted from LeClerc's data) and will be able to soak up the pressure from 'the other side of the garage'. He is also a clever operator, with a great 'race reading' ability.
How the talks broke down, whether it was over money or 'equal treatment' or something like that, I don't know. Bottom line is - "mega miss" by Redbull.

To me this is a bit weird calling it a disaster that someone like Sainz can't get a seat in top team. if he's only capable of winning when the #1 driver in the team is having an off day, then why care if he gets a seat in a top team? You'd think that we (or you in this case) should only care that the top drivers get seats in the top teams, which is the case anyway (Alonso being the only exception currently imo).

sainz is winning because he had a good car probably fastest depending on track ,on sunday during rain he was rubbish and got outqualified by many driver in slower cars including yuki and lawson.

Yuki qualifying P3 was pretty big. That impressed a few people.
yuki has wrong passport if they is such thing.he led a race last year in Abu dhabi on merit after outqualifying many drivers on the top teams ,so the point is yuki has done many impressive things he shouldn't be in the position to prove himself. With Alonso having many health issues and stroll looking lost maybe he will follow Honda to Aston.
I do not think it is about the passport. I think it is about Honda, Honda has screwed Yuki by leaving RB. There is now no incentive for RB to let Yuki take that second seat.

Perez has scored 48 points since imola

Can the team get a serious driver please
They tried with Gasly, Albon and Perez. What would be a serious driver at this point? Lawson? I doubt he’d do much better than those three. Same for Yuki imo. Colapinto? Just too much of an unknown/risk I think. I honestly don’t know what I’d do if I was in Red Bull’s position.
Spain's Carlos Sainz Jr would be a proven "smooth operator"! :D

That seems unfair, Sainz Jr is far above the level of the likes of Bottas or Perez. Sainz has proven it by beating Norris and Leclerc on points over a season -- not to say that this means Sainz is at the level of Norris or Lecelrc, but Sainz is clearly very good (on average).

Monaco's Charles Leclerc had the very same car and didn't even finish 2nd in the Mexican GP!

I think the issue is number of season.

When compare to a top driver, you can’t have for too long the same second driver:

- BOT was worst and worst with HAM
- PER is worst and worst with VER
- VAN an awful last year along ALO

Agree a real shame that Red Bull didnt take Sainz to the team. He would have been very consistent, and much quicker then Perez.

MV: Yeah, well, I mean, of course, that was important. I wanted to, of course, win a bit sooner. But yeah, it's been tough for us. We always kept pushing. We didn't really understand why the others were so fast in the race, especially. Yeah, I've been trying a lot of things to improve the car. And I mean, starting P17 this morning, didn't look like we were going to win the race again. So yeah, it's an incredible result for us. A massive boost for the team, because honestly, it's been tough. But it is also a big strength of the team to stay calm and just try to work on performance and try to improve our situation. And I'm confident. I'm confident for the last three races that we can fight again, and especially in the race that we will be more competitive.

Sainz can't drive an over steer car, we saw it in 2022. Jr struggled until he had Mattia change direction of development that suited his style.

What a ridiculous statement. Sainz is not one of the absolute best drivers on the grid but he's certainly above average. If the choices are Sainz or Perez, unless the team doesn't give a crap about the WCC, they should pick Sainz. There's a reason he has almost double Perez's points. And while Sainz can be crash prone, he's no more crash prone than Perez is lol!

IMO Red Bull might have been worried about Sainz not being a team player. There is no way Sainz would roll over and be Verstappen's guard dog. If he has a chance for a win, he will go for it, even at the cost of Verstappen's race. Maybe this isn't the mentality Red Bull wanted.

Or maybe just Horner thought that 1 toxic father is already more than enough in the pit.
As I understand, back then in their Toro Rosso time, the real issue was not even between Verstappen and Sainz junior, but rather with their fathers and their constant fighting/lobbying.
I can understand that you don't want to handle all of that.
