Really hate that other drivers fanbases have attached that narrative to Ocon. It's ridiculous.

Outside of that, I think he deserves more respect than he's given. There aren't many drivers on the grid who have had an opposite garage on the level of Perez/Ricciardo/Alonso/Gasly(47 wins between them) and he's held his own against all of them.

If there is a chaotic race with changeable weather (likely at this point) this will put the new trackside structure under a lot of pressure right away. I was reminded recently of Montreal last year when they started on full wets and the rest of the field was on inters; Kmag and Hulk scythed through the field but they botched the crossover point badly, especially the pitstops. Hopefully this year will be better.

According to @formularacers_ on X, Haas brought 13 performance upgrades to Melbourne, which may explain why they are a little lost after the first practice. With Bearman's wreck not making it easier on them.

Since the 2022 reconfiguration they have struggled in Australia but even with that in mind practice was discouraging. Last year they qualified 14th and 16th and did not look good but managed to finish 9th and 10th so who knows. Maybe they made less progress than they thought.

Haas seems to do some different running in FP1 from everyone else so its not unusual to see them near the bottom. What is concerning is their performance in FP2 which showed little improvement in pace. The comments from Ayao after the practice give the sense that this is more than just conservative running, but there are actual issues. I don't think they are as far off as what the timing sheets show, but predictions after testing that they might be 6th or 7th fastest are probably very optimistic.

Its early days, but man that shunt from Ollie was disappointing because all he had to do was bail out once he hit the gravel. Instead he went full crazy and tried to bulldoze his way out.

yeah, a horrible showing, both in terms of speed as in regards to strategy. Bearman must be the first driver ever to get lapped by the safety car.

Seems to me that they might have been too aggressive, or at least they tried to change too many little things and now they have a package they don't really understand. The FIA docs showed 13 changes, second only to RedBull I think.

This is a huge test for Ayao's leadership right out of the gate. He got a bunch of deserved (or undeserved) credit last season, this car is his first real baby and it looks pretty ugly. If he can't get it turned around my mid to late spring they might have to bail on 2025 which would be really bad for the team.

Not really. The only major thing they changed is the rear suspension. They kept the same front suspension they had last year as well.

Komatsu came to the ready table with Steiner's car and his recruiment Hulk, who was carrying the team. Now Komatsu has his own car and drivers. Didn't start well.
