Mclaren Mercedes MP4-25

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Training can be done anywhere and any time... I didnt say he was not training before or in Hawaii, I said that since his BGP contact did not allow him to truly join McLAren until Jan 1 he should have been doing all his training before then and then been at the factory exactly at midnight to start doing things that his prior contract stopped him from doing, like simulator work. Or maybe his prior contract only dissallowed PR work for McLare... IDK.

Its kinda like midnight madness in college basketball, the rules say you cant start pratice until such and such day, so start at midnight to maximize the day.

Relaxing is the best thing he could probably be doing right now. Schumacher used to spent long periods away from even the word F1. Jenson has just had the most stressful year of his life, relaxing will do more help than anything right now ;-)!
Yes the McLaren Simulator is worthless, and I bet Alonso wont be using the new one Ferrari just spent millions on either.
And the reports of the countless hours HAmilton logs on it must not be paying off for him at all.

The teams using rFactor Pro (like Red Bull) for their sims punch in their vehicle data from whatever model they use.

"Pro does not feature any dynamics model as standard. Instead it provides an environment where a customer can run their own vehicle model.

Pro can run a number of different models including Simulink, Dymola, Adams, VI-Grade and C++"

So for a driver in the loop sim, what can be better than a sim that uses real vehicle data? the same sim can run logs and take the driver out of the sim loop as well, to line up what happens on the screen vs the track.

I would assume the new Ferrari sim uses their own models as well.

Jenson needs to peak physically at melbourne, if he trains too early (ie before the new year) there is no way he could hold his conditioning all the way through the season.

He would have mapped out the best fitness routine for his season and McLaren would want him to stick with it. If he is not in the factory at the start of January big deal. Both he and the team obviously agree that the best way for him to be fast come Bahrain is the be in Hawaii relaxing and training at this time of the year.

Why is everyone going on about Jenson's fitness, he has never been a pork pie when it comes to fitness, he's a professional and know what he's supposed to be doing when.

All breaks will be programmed into a routine he would have worked out with McLaren/ his trainer. Now give him a break.

Jenson does Triathlon's for "fun" as do some of the other drivers. So I don't think his fitness will be an issue. His biggest hurdle is integrating into the team.

After training 4 or 5 hours a day for quite a few years like any ordinary F1 driver, anyone would be at top form! And any of these drivers are perfectly capable of keeping up for a GP race easily, at any time. The rest is up to their skill.

Some of these posts show how much people really know about fitness levels... fanboy yinyang over and over!

I'm sure Alonso is at Ferrari sprinkling his 6/10ths into the carbon layers before it goes into the autoclave. ;)

All this about Button should really be in this thread...
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=7638

But I'll post this here since it is relevent to the latest discussion...

Button starts work at McLaren factory
http://f1.gpupdate.net/en/formula-1-new ... n-factory/

[quote]Following a holiday in Hawaii, World Champion Jenson Button has returned to Britain and began work at McLaren's base in Woking on Thursday. With fellow Champion and team-mate Lewis Hamilton training in the Alps on his 25th birthday, Button attended technical meetings as well as taking part in a seat fitting and sampling the McLaren simulator for the first time./quote]

Again I say wasnt there enough time for Holiday between Abu Dahbi and Jan 1(when his contract ran out)? Why did they wait 8 days to get him in what is said to be F1's best simulator?

As a side suggestion, maybe we should have a separate section for drivers like we do for the cars.

To paraphase Peter Windsor (with a heavy dose of sarcasm) it's what us lazy europeans do. We have holidays, worry about apostrophes, go skiing, fly off to some winter sun, enjoy some culture .... and win nearly every F1 WDC and WCC ;)
