Its evident the car is very different to the 2009 car, Sam Michael called it a clean sheet design, but it retains some distinctive features of its predecessor.
Starting with quite bulbous sidepod fronts, to provide space for the larger fuel tank and accomdate the radiators. Then the rear of the sidepods are shrunken around the gearbox to improve airflow over the diffuser.
At the front the whole nose is raised, but does not appear to follow the Red Bull Newey “V” nose concept, as the top of the chassis is flat and doesn’t sport the shoulder pads seen on the Ferrari F10. The nose cone ends with Red Bull’ish flat tip, probably to mount the FOM Tv camera pods. There’s no snow plough underneath the nose as yet, it possible that Williams innovation in this area will not return this year.
The engine cover and roll structure appear familiar, not sporting the McLaren style undercut roll hoop, but still wearing inlets for oil cooler mounting above the gearbox.
The car is not due to launch officially until Sunday 31st Jan at Valencia.
