But I have to say the W01 with yellow camera and red helmet looks pretty cool. Also the Renault brings some color to F1. All in all it was cool to see the new cars running for the first time in '10.

The testing day ended with a track temperatur of 22°C compared to 30°C during the noon session. So Schumacher put half a second on Rosberg in worse conditions. He also had to cope with a red flag. Well done Michael!!

I think the absolute times were difficult to compare between teams. Although Massa ran the fastest lap this does not mean that Ferrari will be out of trouble. Sauber were quite high up on the grid although they are not expected to make it to the top teams this year. They urgently need sponsorship though and may have had less fuel on board than other teams.

With so little time and testmiles during the pre-season tests I wonder how presentative the times will be ? Would teams spend any time sandbagging.
And if they do, would it be beneficial?

It seems that by March, the grid was starting to work itself out. Not so much in the early tests though. The thing is, there is such a wide range of fuel loads the cars could (and should) be running on that I would say it will be very hard to get a like to like comparison in testing this year.

I was just trying to demonstrate that towards the end of last year's winter testing the times were becoming representative. It's not for comparison with this weeks tests.

Ah, okay my bad. I see what you mean with a few exceptions Catalunya tests were indeed representative of season to come.

Very early days, but so far it looks like Williams and especially Renault (what a surprise ) could be a bit off the pace. McLaren will probably be considerably faster once Lewis or Jenson get in the car, but 1.3 seconds is still a rather big gap. Mercedes not bad (impressive comeback for Michael), but of course nowhere near as impressive as they (Brawn) were looking in last year's pre-season testing. Ferrari and Sauber (!) are looking good so far. I wish Red Bull were in Valencia too...

This is very true.
However with the new fuel regs. at some point teams are going to have to do something resembling a race simulation. Speed + duration of run should be very telling!
