His first run was in the rain.

As well as fuel loads, we don't know which tyres they are using, or how old they are. I guess they'll to run a couple of sets to end of life to predict the drop off point.
yes richard, but the thing that make me worried is more about the time he spend in the pit while everyone is putting miles on their car ... setup problem maybe?

warming up a little bit, but very cold compared with Valencia last week.

German site criticizes the Bridgestone inters. They loose grip in 2-3 laps at Jerez which is a track hard with tyres.

Today is all about collecting dry weather data (considering the weather forcast).
We will probably see some low fuel numbers near the end of the session!

I bet Wirth's CFD didn't predict that! :P

That's a missing front wing and a bent sidepod deflector thingy. Did he crash, or has it just fallen off?

EDIT: I assume the front wing took out the side pod thingy on it's way off the car.

Alonso's first stop must have been to change the soft tires for the hard, but what is clear is that the latter have worked very well, with low degradation because the final laps of the champion has been excellent since been lowered to his best day.

yeah,

12:25 Virgin's Nick Wirth says he has been very encouraged by the early performance of the car despite the lack of running. Story on AUTOSPORT soon

12:21 The team had a problem with the front wing mounting. The issue has been identified, but it is missing spare parts so it will be unable to return to the track today

The front wing is that one part that is most likely to get damaged, e.g. if you go off track! I am quite surprised that will not have THAT spare part :D

cocerning the times of Virgin ,considering the very limited running they had ,they seem to be not too far off the pace for novices ..
As can be seen by their example ,we get a taste of what to expect from the other outfits ,not even ready to get some mileage under their belts...

Phew! That's why these new teams need more testing than the established teams. Imagine if Campos or USFI turn up at Bahrain and this sort of thing happens in a race? Please note that is did say "imagine" !!

As for spare parts, I guess they might have an exact replacement there. However, because it fell off, they might need to make & install an alternative design with more secure fixings, hence the call to the factory.
