Maybe they saw the rain and decided to switch the programme to do some work that they might have planned for tonight.

Whilst maximising mileage is important at this stage, there is no point testing parts that won't give up any extra information , or perhaps don't work. Or perhaps a part came from the factory early so this is McL advancing their programme, not delaying it?

Schumacher exercise test starts
15:07 - Michael Schumacher exercise test starts now. Two consecutive rounds, he is driving in the pitlane, warming his tires in the pit lane and at the end of the pitlane, the GP-Mercedes test driver a start.

Teams resume afternoon
14:56 - Most teams have lunch and resume the session. Mercedes GP has changed its program for the afternoon, Schumacher will according to sources with the team have to make longer runs.
heavy fuel load now for a long run like Alonso's in the morning?
Kobayashi Schumacher and touch each other
15:24 - Kamui Kobayashi and Michael Schumacher rounds cause some very close succession. Once they even came close together and touched each other, without major consequences. Kobayashi parked his Sauber C29 just in the pits, Schumacher will continue undisturbed with his long run.
Schumacher has done 10 laps on this run - hopefully he'll stay out for another few dozen to give us a comparison with Alonso

Alonso back in the pits after another 10-lap run. He's done 99 laps so far
If it stays dry I wonder if Ferrari will let Fred give his Home Boyz a glory lap?

unfortunatelly I can´t find someone relating times posted to number of laps in that run ...and on which lap of the stint the time was posted...so pretty useless having so called live feed ,when information is filtered as much.

15:04 Schumacher has finished a 35-lap run. He didn't look as fast as Alonso, but fuels loads are a mystery

this is from Autosport

Taken from autosport.

Not good, but at least they are there.

yeah,

12:25 Virgin's Nick Wirth says he has been very encouraged by the early performance of the car despite the lack of running. Story on AUTOSPORT soon

12:21 The team had a problem with the front wing mounting. The issue has been identified, but it is missing spare parts so it will be unable to return to the track today

The front wing is that one part that is most likely to get damaged, e.g. if you go off track! I am quite surprised that will not have THAT spare part :D
I hope it's not another Simtek

13:47 After his 47-lap run earlier, Alonso has now completed a ten-lap one, improving his time to a 1:22.764. The Ferrari driver is now back in his garage

i found this and it was the reason for posting the comment.alonso posted a 1:22.764 on a 10 lap stint .so did he do the time on lap two or 10 ? not much effort to write
but a lot more content.
So Schumacher did a 35lap stint and not once a time or a trend was put on their ticker...boring.

My feeling is it is with guys doing longruns of 35 laps (so half race distance
or even more and comparing the best laps in that stint with what they already achieved you can get an idea where they are in terms of outright speed ..

Here comes the glory runs!!! Usually happens in the last 20 minuites, where they fuel low just to grab the daily headlines.

Most drivers have got in decent ammounts of time on track. I am thinking that the Virgin VR-01 could be about 3 seconds off the pace of the mid feild guys, but still too early to tell.
