Williams FW32 Cosworth

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Oh oh! Maybe bad news ....
http://autosport.aeiou.pt/gen.pl?p=stor ... ries/81727

Google translated text...

The first practice of Jerez de la Frontera have been marked by
track debut of the new Cosworth V8, with Williams being the first
the team opened it, but the English team had some problems with the
adjustment of the FW32, which also did not help to make a more accurate
the potential of the engine English. But that did not prevent him know if
Barrichello was disappointed with the lack of power of the Cosworth
claimed 30 horses under the Mercedes that was used in
2009.

According to sources Cosworth registered the main problem had to do with
an error in a pump station, which vibrated excessively and
forced to run the V8 always a mix very poor, and undermines the
their performances. What is certain is that the FW32 was the slowest in
line, so there is work to do in terms of engine, even if only
installation of pump.

Interestingly, the teammate Rubens Barrichello in Williams,
German Nico Hulkenberg made a more positive assessment of the Cosworth engine,
because he said the drivers of brand English are "the best and most
strong "that Toyota used by Williams in 2009, when he
was just 'test driver' of the team factory. In addition to Williams, the Cosworth
provides engines for all new teams, the Virgin, USF1, and Lotus
Campos.

 Hope they fix fuel pimp issues

They have until Bahrain to "fix" the engine, it should be sorted.

is it just my eyes or does the body work look to have a golf ball texture. i know a golf ball has dimples to help it get through the air easier so it goes further, could this help if applied to a formula 1 car?

mate, i think its just sheer carbon fibre with a really thin coat of paint. what interests me though are those sensors. temperature sensors maybe; and you could see the readings.

look at the high res picture i thought it could be the carbon fibre layers but when you zoom in there is shadows on the dimple like shapes. plus then look at the bottom half of the picture either the weive is different or it is dimples lol was just a thought :)

The rain in Spain has not made this any easier and it was wet again today. The testing days are now beginning to run out and so most teams are going to be going to Bahrain without that much preparation work done. The fastest time today was from the Williams of Rubens Barrichello. This may or may not be significant, but the word on the street is that the Williams is a pretty good car and more or less on a par with the McLarens in terms of speed.
Encouraging rumour, but rumour none the less.

I recall last year Williams stayed very low key till the end of practice and then shot forward although they were obviously over shadowed by the BGP001...

Personally I'd love it if the FW32 is a dark horse.

Williams more than anyone deserve some results. Frank just want to race, and he's strtig to realize that the money needs to come from other sources. WHP, and Williams Golf clubs, and whatever legit business they can get into will only help them keep improving.

They had bad luck in the 90's financially. They tried to align themselved with a good engine manufacturer like Mclaren did, but the story ends there. Mclaren got some rich Saudis, some rich Mercedes money, and were able to build into the monolith they are now.

Year on year I want to cheer them on, but it gets harder and harder as they just don't have the resources to develop like Macca.

One of the few garage teams left, I want them to succeed more than anyone, and I'm not a fanboy for any one team (pointless with all the inbreeding in F1), so that says a lot.

Nope, but when you don't know the answer, critising something arbitrary usually takes the attention away from your lack of knowledge.

As for my lack of knowledge, well that's immense, but I did read a post on here from one of the Brains that says the golf ball effect does indeed reduce drag, so it looks like a good spot on your part :P .
