F1 pistons and their makers

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

You know I'm not a formalist  but for the sake of forum and topic, naming it F1 Pistons or something similar would be more useful, especially for future searchers. Not all pistons in F1 are Mahle, so it is a bit inappropriate.

Well, by "you know what to do" I meant "send me a PM", but, sure, you can post and make a report if you have to... 8) Good idea, it'll do.

Now I know this post by far isn't as interesting as some of the beauties in this thread, but since some people were still wondering which teams used the mahle pistons, why not? :P

An update at the Mahle website (link) states that:
"Seven victories in the 2009 season and a total of 387.5 out of 643.5 possible points in the team classification are an impressive balance of the year."
The site doesn't say "pistons" in stead of "Motorsports components", but one may assume that whenever any team uses Mahle parts on their engine, they are sure as hell going to use Mahle pistons as well imho ;).

A quick look at the '09 championship shows that there is only one possible combination of teams that can achieve that combination of points and race victories.
Those teams being: RBR, Ferrari, Toyota, BMW, Williams, Renault, STR.
Obviously leaving the three Mercedes-driven teams (Mclaren, BrawnGP, Force India) as the only non-Mahle engines, as Edis already mentioned previously in this thread.

The rumor is that Mahle Powertrain supplies the engine to the McLaren road car but I'm not sure if that is correct. Mahle Powertrain is the company that used to be Cosworth Technologies, they designed the current Astom Martin V12 for instance. But there are other firms that could do the job too I guess, Lotus Engineering, Ricardo and AVL to mention a few. But Mahle sure is a probably candidate.[/quote]

Mahle Powertrain did purchase Cosworth Technology, I worked there at the time. As Cosworth Technology, it was owned by Audi, and they sold Cosworth Racing to Ford. I cannot say if are building the McLaren road car engine, but they did design and build the V12 Vanquish and Vanquish S engine. Myself and a collegue built the first Vanquish S test engine. They also built the Audi Audi RS4, V6 TT engine, which was my primary responsibility. I was involved in the production setup of the Audi RS6 engine before I left to return to Ireland, so I know they built that also. All above engines used Mahle pistons. They have been involved in many projects that they remain silent on, such as a 2000cc turbocharged engine they designed, that the manufacturer claimed to have designed. They aslo do validation and testing for company's such as Rolls Royce and Aston Martin.
