Is F1 getting boring?

The Lotus 79 was already easier to handle than the mercedes W196 and the MP4/4 was easier to handle than the lotus 79..that's progress.

It is the same with every machine which is performance dedicated (fighter jets, competition vehicules) they are easier to handle so that the pilot can actually concentrate on...driving.

This is no easier, this is different; no way you could fight on the edge of performance with a lotus 79 as you do with modern F1 car.

You can either fight the car or fight the track not both at the same time.

As for pinnacle of technology maybe those are not the most useful technologies anymore but just talking about aerodynamics the actual cars are quite cleverly done and with some exotic solutions sometimes.

The on track action is another topic.

F1 needs more passing and lead changes -- there seems to be general agreement on that point.

And please remember: F1 is NOT designed to make us happy (we are -- no offense meant -- the lunatic fringe of the sport); it is meant to be entertainment for the masses.

The 70's - 90's were better. I still don't agree with the paddle shifting even Indy cars don't have paddle shifters. I am happy Lotus has returned but it's really not Lotus. The new teams are to slow to compete with the rest of the field. Even if you gave them a lap head start they would still be the last ones to finish.

The problem is that a lot of people said those old races were boring as well. It's great when you can just pick out the highlights you actually remember...........

Exactly what i was trying to say earlier, watch some old races and you will find out...i dont mean highlight tapes...the whole race, even those races touted as great ones arn't much different to what we see today, especially with no refueling and large differences in performance....

Don't get me wrong I still love Formula 1 and its still my favorite sport to watch. I just wish they would change some things that it would be like the old Prost and Senna days but those days are long gone.

If you can't point at what things to change precisely, objectively (i.e: the things are really a problem in the context) then ask yourself if it is not you the source of your boredom.

As someone said: we grew older.

There's no offence in my post (internet is not easy for that), but i see so many people complaining at things that they do not know in deep.

I don't know if it's your case or not, i just wanted to say that feelings are very subjective.

Before I get into hot water, let me proclaim, I love F1, particularly the technology that goes into each car, and the massive amount of brain power behind every effort; From CFD, to strategy to 'rule interpretation'. Awesome. As an on track spectacle? Not so much. I found Bahrain to be yet another procession.

Perhaps we can look at Indycar racing for ideas. I know, standardized series, standard engines, standard bodywork. BUT, before you jump the gun, take a look at the headline AutoSport has about the season opening event:

"Power wins thrilling IndyCar opener."

You can hardly say that for about 75% of the F1 races over the past few years. Sure there were a few good battles here and there, but for the vast majority, excitement for me comes from qualifying sessions.

The spectacle needs change.

There have been some really great races until 2009 and the cars looked impressive and well developed. Of course there was room for improvement. Then 2009 they made big rule changes that caused boring races and ugly cars. Overtaking hasn't improved either. Now 2010 things turn even worse. The cars are still ugly (especially with their small front tires) and the show got even worse. The last sense of racing is gone now since the drivers have to look after tyres, fuel use, engine use and prolly many other things but can't really risk a thing for overtaking.
Even the last exiting thing is gone now. The pit stops with refuelling.
