Quick and dirty but it's evident that bigger rims will have a huge impact on the aesthetics of the car.

Yes you do. Best example of it will be this coming race.
For the most part you overtake by having a better setup/car overall, drafting, etc. It's possible you may catch the guy on the braking portion(s) of the lap, but that's different from the regular circuit based racing outbraking maneuvers. In fact in nascar chances are you won't even be following the same racing line as the guy you 'outbraked', so it's really a different concept. Every now and then you may see something closer to a 'normal' outbrake maneuver, but it's definitely not what nascar overtaking is mainly based around

There was talk about them increasing the wheel size in order to offer more appeal to the sport for the public. If people see 17 inch wheels with 40 profile rubber, they can relate to it more. This talk was going on around the same time as the Center Downwash Wing idea.

I'm glad the idea was throttled. As for the tire to rim ratio, it is 1:1. One tire for each rim. :mrgreen:
