Do you seriously think that a single spec engine would go through as long as Ferrari are here? If it wasn't theirs of course.horse wrote:I can see how an engine duopoly would be a bad thing, but what about going all the way to a single engine supplier. Surely this is the long term ideal of equalisation anyway, so why not just take the plunge and use a single engine? It would make the racing closer.
Viry (Fr) for engine manufacturing, Enstone (GB) for ChassisGiblet wrote:Since Renault is split into two facilities.. ..Vichy and Cologne I believe..
Introducing any engine manufacturer is a good thing. Forcing entrants to use it was not.WhiteBlue wrote:Many people in F1 will soon be glad Max brought Cosworth back.
Renault Sport S.A.S. is at Viry Chatillon, France, where engine design is done. Though, I think Mecachrome are still responsible for machining, assembly, and delivery of the engines. As long the freeze is in effect, it would probably be possible to rebadge the engine and use it anyway if Renault decided to quit. In the past Renault engines have been rebranded as Mechachrome, Supertec and Playlife (Benetton).Giblet wrote:Since Renault is split into two facilities, it would be very easy to sell the engine side.
Vichy and Cologne I believe, although I can't remember which is the engine side and which is the chassis side.
Red Bull should just buy the engine side with his soda money, and supply to both STR and themselves, and whoever else. The guys could stay employed, and there would be little need to do anything other than get new business cards printed up.
Not often Max gets the praise he deserves / deserved IMO. I agree completely.WhiteBlue wrote:I'm really happy that the FiA pushed for viable business conditions that eventually enabled Cosworth to come back.
Let's thank him for getting rid of many manufacturers too.Scuderia_Russ wrote:Not often Max gets the praise he deserves / deserved IMO. I agree completely.WhiteBlue wrote:I'm really happy that the FiA pushed for viable business conditions that eventually enabled Cosworth to come back.
You should blame international banking for that not Max.Pandamasque wrote:Let's thank him for getting rid of many manufacturers too.Scuderia_Russ wrote:Not often Max gets the praise he deserves / deserved IMO. No, it's about shambles of Cosworth coming in and being on par with manufacturers who can invest cubic billions and achieve nothing. What's the point of investing in F1 to be average at best when one can use that money to win in sportscars and WRC.autogyro wrote:You should blame international banking for that not Max.
Hopefuly when the FIA appoint the correct person to run F1.Dukeage wrote:One outfit that might possibly join could be Proton, bearing in mind their involvement in the new Lotus outfit. Weren't VW also mentioned?
It isn't preferable, but isn't the end of the world if we get three next year, bearing in mind the plans to introduce new technical regulations, presumably turbos around 1600cc. The question is when the decision will be taken and when the rules will come in.
