After 2 months of work here is my f1 car for 2011. I decided to make a brand new car as the old one had reached the end of its development potential. The new car has a normal, single deck diffuser as ddd's are banned for 2011. I havent been able to add 18" rims on yet.
1 (and 4). A new outer endplate design, designed to make less drag and a greater area of low pressure on its inside.
2. The 2nd cascade element now curves downwards and joins onto the main element. Before I was worried that it would flex too much.
3. The main element now features 3 wings instead of 2, hopefully so the wing is more stable and flow separation will not occur. Also the cross sectional shape of the wings has been changed.
5. The vertical wing mounts now splay outwards to connect directly with the cascade element. The camera housing has been lengthened and put in the central 250mm. It has also been given an angle of attack of 5degrees (the maximum allowed in the rules) to reduce the lift from the central 250mm element.
6. This is the opening for the f-duct control. My interpretation of the f-duct uses a fludic valve so that when the drive blocks the hole with his knee, air flows
and directs the air to the gearbox for cooling, stalling the rear wing.
7. As the front tyres are smaller (in diameter as well as width - see an article on racecar engineering) I have been able to extend the wheel fairing to halfway around the wheel.
8. The chassis has a very aggressive V - nose to allow the suspension to pick up at very near to a single mounting point.
