Ferrari F10

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

not bashing. just seemed abit odd they have the f-duct vent and the brake balance control on the same side you would have thought they would have swapped the brake balance to the right so the driver always has 1 hand on the steering wheel or at least not have his right arm crossed over incase there is an incident he doesnt have as far to move his arms

Maybe because drivers use right hand to go up with the gears?

the driver is changing the brake balence with his right hand anyways so he cant use that hand to change up a gear lol wouldnt they be changing brake balence in top gear or in a higher gear where they wont be changing up a gear again? all they do is a quick twist of the brake balence, better than reaching across to the other side of the cockpit

They often change between the corners.
Often not at top gear.

AFAIK they use their left hand mostly for the brake balance?

yeah i was thinking that, would it be possible to have one both sides one on the right for when the hand is on the f-duct and one on the left for when they change it through the corner? im guessing they would both have to change at the same time (if you increase the left one the right one increses too)

I guess, it's still an early solution, probably they could optimize things further.

Making the driver juggle with air valves and switches and forcing the driver to drive with no hands on the wheel shows just how out of touch Ferrari is with common sense engineering.
They are the ergnomics of a drunken juggler.

how should they make it more "ergonomic" ?

Perhaps they could start by realising the driver has two hands and two legs.

This F-duct is actually a bit better than Sauber's, in ergonomy, I mean. The Sauber drivers have to move the hand away from the steering wheel, while in the Ferrari they still have their fingers around it, in case they need to grab it.
Cool to see them doing the last corner with one hand and looking as smooth as normally. 8)
I like it, it is simple and it seems to work.

I heard they cant make a duct actionated by legs cause chassis is homologated or something like that

I don't think in ferrari they spend nights to think on how to make pilot's driving harder

They could have just moved the hole 10 cm behind from its current position, In that way they could activate it using their elbows...so that they dont have to take their hands off the steering wheel....and move the brake balance switch (the tricky brake balance thingy switch ) to the right side (remember it used to be on the right side in Schumy era and 2007)

1. You forget about tub homologation
2. you forget about upshifting
