Re: Monaco GP 2010 - Monte Carlo

Post

We had enough love-vs-hate on these forums with Hamilton and Alonso, and now MS is back. WOW~~

In my opinion it is just to make some news, being difficult with public figures and exploit whatever lead there is to create some noise. Personally my assessment is that things that need to be said have been said in 2006, and there is no point going 4 years back when everyone is preparing for another Monaco GP. What happened was stewards handed him the penalty, and he (along with Jean Todt) denied to have deliberately done it. I don't see him saying something different if you ask him now... maybe he will when he's 70 years old, but not today.

As for the truth - I doubt more than a few really knew. Well, it is very suspicious that he should fail at that corner, and it also seemed he wasn't really going to improve his lap time on that run. As for the very issue whether he did it deliberately, only Schumi can tell. Stewards made their judgement based on the fact that he had little to gain from fighting that corner (something Todt disagreed), and that stopping on track to block Alonso was such a big incentive it appeared to be more like a deliberate action. That much we know and not much more.

If somebody has substantial insider information regarding the incident to tell, I'll be glad to hear. At the moment, however, I think it is not really very useful to discuss the issue again or try to judge anything. I only know discussion was closed and the matter has been settled the way it was (and for goodness sake Alonso won WDC 2006, MS has retired for 3 yrs and has come back!!!). I would beg your mercy to please move on and go back to Monaco GP 2010, which is what this thread is about.

... Unless he manages to repeat that feat again!

It's looking tight at the top. Not surprised to see Kubica doing so well. The McLarens' performance looks better than the timesheet suggests: both were doing high-fuel runs when the track was at its quickest, which is when the drivers above them set their times. Looks like it's going to be an exciting race.

Looks like a showers during quailfying and the race. Lets hope there is so that the Monaco GP is worth watching. [-o<
I think I may be the only one in the world, but I HATE rain at Monaco. It makes for a boring race to me. Yeah slipping and sliding is cool, and watching them try and balance traction and speed is entertaining. But I like the car hauling ass around city streets on the absolute limit better. Even if it is just a Trulli train. Rain to me ruins it, on any other track I like rain, just here it's no fun to watch them not go very fast. Specially without traction control. It's a crapshoot in the rain.
No, Ray, you're NOT the only one. Count me in, too. In fact, I dislike rain at any race. Yes, it does put the premium on driver skill, but it also injects the element of pure luck.

Kubica's driving is making the difference for renault. He was on top for a good while.
The car also looks good through the slow speed turns.

My personal view is that Schumacher is a great man. Like other great men - I'm thinking of Senna, Churchill or Enzo Ferrari - he also has his faults. History has rendered a judgement about the Rascasse incident in 2006 and I have agreed with the steward's decision to punish him from the day he did it. As andartop pointed out we do not usually cook up every scandal when we return to the race venue where it took place. We did not do it to Senna and Prost in press conferences in Japan, and the same should apply to Schumi in Monaco.
Very fair comment, WB =D> . I try to hold a reasonably open-minded attitude about people's ethics -- see my signature. I think Schu (like some other greats -- Farina, Fangio, Senna) was a great driver, and an imperfect man. Chapman and Enzo probably deserve the same rating -- great man, but not good man. Which of us is better than "imperfect"? Not me! #-o

Super pix, WB. Much thanks.

It's only practice, but it's good to see a mix of cars at the top. And maybe Alonso can pull a surprise. . . .

It's VERY early yet, but is anyone else thinking this could be a repeat of the year (was it 1989?) when one make (McL) won every race except ONE. And that year Ferrari won the only race McL did not win, Monza. I hope the remainder of the season proves me very wrong.

Any more rumors about Kubica having signed a (conditional)contract with Ferrari?????

Did we actually go through two FP's in Monaco without one pilot binning it?

This race could be a first for Fred this season.
He stands a decent chance of actually putting the third consecutive race on the same lunp. :o =D>
