Renault R30

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Kubica stated in the interview after qualification, that Renault raced the new floor, which was tested in China. According to his words, it had minor problem, which was fixed, but it gives only slight gains. He also said that the new front wing depending on car's set up sometimes gives some gains and sometimes don't, but with his current set after testing it on the morning up he has chosen to race it.

Good job Blackout, thank you. Only minor updates in Monaco for R30, and massive package, probably including F-duct, in Turkey.

Eric Boullier has said it won't put resources to the F-duct. I think Renault are more on an "upgrade every race" rather than "massive upgrades at Barcelona" strategy though.

When Boullier said it about f-duct? I know that he said something like this at the very beginning of the season, but in Malaysia he said that Renault will have f-duct in future, and two people are working on this.

Even though EB initially denied that any work was being done in that area, he later admitted that Renault's own version of the F-duct was being developed and they should use it in Turkey. Actually, Kubica said a similar thing in one of the recent interviews:

Original:
My shabby translation:
Q: Are you working on your own version of the F-Duct?
A: The team is working on it, but we also have other priorities. If this system actually works, it will give us a decent advantage. However, we may have more problems with using the device than some of the other teams.

Yes, Renault's F-duct is almost ready to be used; Boullier said (before Barcelona) it's 70% complete and works very well...

It's great fail, when team has to develop something banned from next year... DDD and F-duct I mean....

@Blackout - thanks for photos with new front wing. Good job!

I see it's not a subtle front wind change! More airflow goes under R30 nose (and DDD or floor?) and do I see correct there are some changes under nose too?

The old wing was more curvy on the underside, the new one is more of a smooth shape

from my.renaultf1.com

"Yes, we do have some upgrades for this race, derived from our recent full-scale aero test in the USA. It's another good step forward - we've put over a second of lap time on the car since the start of the season. The guys are pushing hard!"

Given that they probably don't have the resources of the top teams and the F-duct is only going to give a clear advantage at certain tracks (and it is banned for next season) then I think he's right. Besides, the straight line speed of that Renault doesn't look bad at all without any F-duct or blown wing.
