If the outer skin is made from a composite much more compliant and weaker than the crash structure, then it wont affect the performance of the crash structure.

Yes a similar argument was in the W01 thread. The crash structure could a simplified cone with the aero skin over it. Similar to last year, Renault seemed to have a styrofoam tip on the chin of the nose.
I'd like to believe little lumps and surfaces can be plonked onto the nose, and not be in breach of regulations. Hopefully we will see more of this further down in the season.
