I have been many times on this track watching races. The german fans used to make really good partys on the campside near by during the nights. During last years the partys reduced more and more and it even went a bit quiet and boring there. So this year I was on another track (Monaco) to see the race.

the lack of really quick corners might have an impact on those who struggle with tires..but thinking aagain ,there are two ..the Nordkurve (turn 1)and the one leading into the stadium...both right handers this one changed names so often I don´t remeber its current name ...
so I m unfortunatelly not convinced that mercedes will have one of their better weekends...but hey I´m more than happy if they prove me wrong....
It is Redbull and Hamilton battling for pole...
Renault is particularly good at bumpy braking zones, the curve you mention is the Mobil 1 kurve

Oh NO! trees... they are so terrible

What is the downforce level of this track? Higher or the same as Valencia?

About the same, maybe a little higher, Valencia had more high speed sections. Believe it or not this place is murder on the brakes. There is only 2 2/3 heavy braking zones, but the lap is so short that those zones get seen a lot. All requiring braking from 250+ kph, the braking zone for the spitzkehere requires braking from 305kph down to about 45, in 100 meters. It's a challenging circuit but it gets boring to drive, the Nurburgring on the other hand, it's both challenging and interesting to drive, it has many more different types of corners, slow, medium, and high speed ones. Here you can relax for a third of the lap distance, on the Nurburgring, even the straights have little kinks to always keep you on your toes.

Some nice onboards I've found

Looks like 7 will still be easy flat, not alot of fast corners for the Red Bulls to run away with, I think Hamilton can possibly win this one if they get the upgrades right... but the Red Bulls are the best bet still, been a while since we had some rain.

Mobil 1 curve is never "easy" flat, they always have to lift a little to get the front end adjusted, maybe Red Bull can do it in qualifying, the race will be different. You can't gain much time in that curve even though it's high speed, maybe .2 at the most. The most crucial element for a good lap is the first turn, and the first heavy braking zone, the spitzkehre is important as well but it's not as bumpy.

Edit:sorry I just realized you meant the kink after spitzkehre only a car with no downforce whatsoever would need to lift for that kink, even gt3 cars take it flat out.

i fancy this track to suit the mclarens, even more so if they get there blown diffuser working. as lewis said after silverstone...there very strong under braking...and the lack of high speed corners will play to there advantages when compared to the bulls. i still expect webber or vettel on pole..but not by much at all, and we all know the race pace swings in the mclarens...or more spefically lewis's favour.

blame Bernie. he blackmailed the circuit into doing it, just to cut the cost of setting up the necessary cameras. They actually went bust over the cost.
