Renault R30

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Not worse. it doesn't bring gains in fast corners.

RK used the Turkish version not the Valencian one.

According to Autohebdo(interview with Team Principal Eric Bouiller), the team will run with a new suspension and some aerodynamic updates in Hockenheim. The suspension has been developed with Robert Kubica's driving style in mind. I'm not quite sure how that effect the update, he likes driving with some understeer(?) from what've read. Anyone has any idea? Renault also seem to be on top of the balance configuration problems with the EBD they had in Silverstone.
The speed of Ayrton Senna.
The mind of Alain Prost.
The dedication of Michael Schumacher.
The determination of Alex Zanardi.

To woinder off topic a little, i just wonder how teams dont implement the 7 post rig in the wind tunnel as well??? Or implement a rolling road with a 7 post rig. If there was such a thing avalable, that would be one powerful tool to use.

True all you can really do with a rig like that is see how the car rides bumps, there are no slow dynamic loads being placed on the tires or the suspension for that matter.

More off topic, even though they have a supercomputer, and although they can probably simulate a lot of the different car behaviors, what is really most challenging is modeling tires, even more so than aerodynamics. I think whoever gets the best handle on correlating tire performance with the real world will have a huge advantage next year. Which at the moment is tricky because data is lacking...

The tyres are the big problem.

Spa?
Not too soon.
However, I think it is a wise decision not to rush things and put F-duct for the races where top-speed is crucial (Spa and Monza)

I heard that in Hockenhaim Renault will have a new suspension (made by setting Kubica) and some new aerodynamic stuff. They hope that they will return to fight with Mercedes!

Renault for 100% is not going to have an F-Duct at Hockenheim

Personally, i think the F-Duct is a waste of money, it has eaten up a rumored $8 for Red Bulls one, Ferarri much much more, the cheapest one to date is Force Indias one.

However, i feel that Renault with a complete new suspension solution for Kubica will help, and futher refinement of the car as a whole would be better value. I feel that that the R30 needs more undercut sidepods and development of the whold coke bottle area would be nice to see developed to my eyes.

I do agree with that yes, but though it is an downside it is renaults strength, these sidepods allow a really clean shape, wich is more efficient than an compact molded body. Also note that renaults sidepods are much shorter.

Renault aimed to make the shortest possible car, in sake of rigidity and lightness. The fuel tank has been widened more than lengthened. All the radiators, including the gearbox radiator, have been placed next to the fuel tank. That's why the bottom of the sidepods are not very undercut.

I think the R30 doesn't need any... because it doesn't/can't heavealy use the top of the floor to help the diffuser to extract more air... it uses the bottom of the floor and the very steep diffuser....
I think the Ferrari F10 is the exact opposite (long car, long floor, have gurney flaps on the diffuser, simplistic diffuser etc)

In fact, its (the R30) rear end is much much tighter than it looks... The R30's diffuser has two steep and high air channels surrounding the gearbox. They take much place in the black rear bodywork...
