Formula1.com:
In Japan the two Red Bull drivers ran two different front wings, two different diffusers and the same new rear wing the team introduced at the last round in Singapore. This featured an F-duct directed on to the main plane (red arrow), in a similar way to the one featured on the Renault. A new feature was the beam wing, with a delta shape in the middle.

Hard to tell but possible difference in the end plate openings.

Wow, good spot. Only problem is that the "After" image doesn't show anything other than the wheel, so there's no way of telling if the camera was horizontal or not.

I'm not saying that I doubt the validity of this comparison, merely that it's impossible to be sure from that image alone.

It is true. According to formula1.com Reb Bull changed their brakecalipers to a more usual upright position. Because of brakeproblems they have had throughout the season.

They used a diferent brake configuration at suzuka,
the position of the brake pads is now vertical like other cars, the made this change to promote reliability

Very interesting, good find. I had predicted that the low brakes were the reason for the semi-failure Seb had when he thought he lost engine power, so they must find them somewhat problematic.

Yes, with the previously used horizontal siting of the calipers, there was more likliehood of grit lodging , as appears to have happened on vetels car a couple of races ago. F1 fanatic, had details of this yesterday.

did both cars use the new caliper layout?
maybe I see it wrong, but it still looks pretty horizontal to me??

or are we talking about the front calibers?
that looks more like it - no?

How do you think the position of the calibers affects reliability?
Appart from better cooling maybe.

They were placed horizontally, at the bottom of the disc, so as to lower c of g. But due to the curvature, grit was able to lie in the arc and get between the pad and disc. This happened Vettel two or three races ago, leading him to believe that there was a problem, and allowing Webber to pass.
