F1 Management Game

Post

Hi guys

Ive been on here a while so i am interested to find out if anybody here is interested. Im planning on building an online F1 Management game, i know there are already a few about.

Im no amazing web designer, i tend to train myself as i go. I do know alot of HTML but php etc. is knew to me so i expect this to take a few months to build. I want to take all my ideas i have from other f1 management games and implement them into mine, aswell as the basic needs of the game.

What im interested to find out is if there would be any number of people here who would test this all for me. What im planing to do is step-by-step as i build the site, i'll let the testers know whats new and they test it out for me. Its not going to be 24/7 - just as and when. Any one interested then please reply here.

If anybody is also handy at web building and wouldn't mind helping me should i get stuck, reply here too.

Its all just planned at the moment but i would like to see the response i get.

Thanks guys

Already there with http://www.f1manager.info/

However, if there was a F1 Manager game you could buy, eg take a team thrugh the GP3/GP2 and then into F1 or take a lowly team into the big leagues with intelegent sponsor decisions and lucritive engine deals/partnerships with prudent budget management and driver and resource management i think id want to buy a game like that.

Think something like Football Manager 2010 but only for F1.

Id also like to see in a Management game for F1 theese:

Courting designers: Adrian Newey or Mike Gascoyne, choose what designer you want, but what one can you afford??? Also add in design team into this, such as Logic Bigos or Paddy Lowe in your team, maximise the design team potential, get the team to the front with a good aerodynamisist. This feature would be simmilar to getting your coatching team righ in a Football Management sim.
Pit Wall Team: Have Rob Smedley on the wall with Shove or Jock Clear on your team. Again think Coatching Team.
Resources: Do you have the resource there to maximise your design potential??? If not, buy a new wind tunnel or upgrade your CFD facility.
Sponsor Gratification: Get the most money from your sponsors as you can with the traditional year long method or do a Brawn and do race to race deals if you want.
Budget Management: Do you spend that extra £10M to get a drivers championship on the last race or do you focus on the next season early and have a poor season and then win it all next???
Appoint supliers: Do you want a change in brake manufacturer for that extra .2 of a second?? Or do you want to change your engine for a more powerful one or a more fuel efficent one???
Drivers: Team Lewis with Massa for the all out win or do you go with a young GP2 guy and a older head to get a good all round season. Also manage their workload as well, ballance physical training/simulator time and sponsor relations for your driver team.
Race Strategy: Do you do alot of time on Fridays and take alot out of your engines or do you get just enough data and save it for the race on sunday??? Also manage your teams race strategy as well, one stoppers or three stops??? Also manage when your drivers go out in quali to get the best lap times in to go for pole to make it out of Q1 and into Q2 for the first time.
Mid Term Changes: Do you want a new driver or a diffrent technical direction with a new designer???

Thats what id like to see. A full on strategy game that will test out the armchair team principle. Also it would be a really nice to have this sort of thing running like FIFA10s change the season thing, where you can buy the game mid season, and then go back to races and change the outcome of it. Also run a full race simulation when a race is on the TV as well.

That would be the ultimate F1 manager game.

I'd love an F1 management type game. I've been playing BatRacer for several years now so I will impart one piece of info.

Be very careful with using actual names. BatRacer was shutdown for about 3 days because of a "Cease & Desist" by Ferrari. When BatRacer came back online, all F1 content was gone. It is slowly coming back with recognizable, alternate names instead of the real ones.

This is one of those crazy legal things that just annoys me to no end. Even if BatRacer did not have the authorization to use the Ferrari name, I don't think the BatRacer guys are making money hand over fist. Does Ferrari have a right to stop them? Yes, absolutely. Is BatRacer harming the Ferrari name by using it? No. In my opinion, it just makes Ferrari look bad for shutting down a few guys that are only trying to provide some fun for the rest of us.

Ranting done now.

cool idea ,I#d love to participate.

but honstly speeaking this is a monster task..as we can see daily...

you surely would have to fit in a project management tool .this alone will be a very
intensive task.
and then quality department ,lifing of components...its a big job to run this type of business but to write a game representing the real world is one step more..

Yeah. I'd like to see what you come up with. I have also been playing Batracer for years. It's simple enough you can play at your desk while talking to clients on the phone. Something more intense would be fun though. Count me in.

Some of your ideas will be taken into account where able. Thanks.

I fully plan you make the game in to depth but at the same time, not to hard for the noobie

I'd be up for testing and developing if you still need help.
I'm in the same position as you as far as Web development, teach myself as I go. I know HTML and can use PHP. Also know Java and C++ if that's any help.

If that game would exist, I would have so much fun.

Players should also be able to race.

Re: F1 Management Game

Post

Hi all,
I am also working on an F1 management style game. I realise there are several good games already out there (I play a couple myself), but would like to have a go at creating my own.
My game is nowhere near ready for other people to play yet and may never be. At the moment it is more of a programming exercise.
I have been reading up on the various problems regarding things such as torque vs power, downforce vs drag etc. but I need a way to simplify the various equations.
My plan is to allow the player to adjust the wings, suspension, brake bias and final gear ratios using normalised values (ie. from 1 to 100). This will keep things relatively simple for the player.
The problem I am having is in coming up with a set of algorithms to calculate the lap times from the setup data, track data and driver skill attributes.
Obviously higher downforce means faster cornering speed, but there must be a point where increasing the downforce only increases the drag without increasing the corner speed. Also there has to be a trade-off between top speed on the straights vs corner speed.
Any help the good people on this forum can give me will be greatly appreciated.
