Renault R31

Okay, so stupid question time...

At the rear of the engine cover it seems quite large and high, with EBDs banned this year could you take air in via the airbox and push it down the back and out the bottom, thus blowing the diffuser ? any advantage to that ? just seems to be a weird shape.

Didn't they kind of do the same with the R30's sidepods?
Not at all. R30's outlets were high ans separated from the floor. R31's outlets cover the floor and blow the diffuser. Cold air passes above the body work not the floor... that's what I mean.

I was wondering the same thing.

Very intriging hot air outlets. They could do like ferrari and tighten up the rear but no, they prefered to cover the top of the floor with the hot air/gaz outlets...

Traditional outlets are high ans separated from the floor. But R31's outlets cover the floor and blow the diffuser. Cold air passes above the body work not the floor...

I'd be inclined to agree.

Perhaps, instead, they're going for a flattened exhaust that blows across more of the diffuser or a solution as mentioned elsewhere where by the starter hole in the diffuser is blown along with another central exhaust in that raised hot air outlet.

Hopkins is onto it.
I suspect a slightly different solution with the F150 but esentially both are heading down the samepath with a "blown" diffusor

Even Scarbs has started to think the exhausts are at the front: http://twitter.com/ScarbsF1/status/32066342618136577

By the way, here's another interesting tweet: http://twitter.com/ScarbsF1/status/32061348212908032

P.S.: is it my computer/connection or Scarbs's twitter page does not show his latest tweets? (They appear with a certain delay (hours)). I have to use Twitter Search to find them.

Chunky actuator for ARW?

Seems rather draggy to me.

I wonder if any team will use the actuator to kind of replace the way the fin connected to the wing in 2010. I thought the exhaust was that wide thing blowing over the width of the diffuser? :?
