But the slots in them are above the wing, not below, and there for a specific reason. Making them thicker from root to wing must add a drag penalty.

They're still the only top 4 team to not have tried a shorter top element on the rear wing right?

Actually, has there been any pictures of them using the ARW because I can't remember seeing any?

There was a while ago (while I was still a lurker). I'd expect that everyone will run it- even HRT appearsto have a system in place.

Anyone have pics of this car running in the rain? I was wondering if the spray from the fronts would just fly straight into the sidepods, and what effect that would have. Especially on cooling.

Where do you expect it to go with a more traditional sidepod layout? When you've got a big intake, rain is going in to it, regardless of shape. I doubt there would be any kind of cooling issue.

Yes, but the rain would be less violent, I would think. The spray would direct a lot of cool water at the rads, and wouldn't that actually HELP cooling?

I think HRT just forgot to screw the wing in properly..

Stop bashing HRT- they were offloaded with a complete dog by Dallara....

And to bring this back on topic, where do you all think that we will see development over the season? I think that McLaren will problably have a new front wing soon after the season starts, maybe even for Oz?

P.S: The mods here are doing a great job. Keep up the good work, and don't delete my post any more :P

They already brought an updated wing to the last test, although I would have thought they would go for something quite different for the L sipepods.

oh calm down.. its a harmless joke

Last year development was seen on every part of the car, and the same the year before that etc...

as Owen says they've already brought a front wing. Its inner elements are wider suggesting that it directs more air to the middle of the car. something which makes sense given the new L shaped side pods and the increase in possible airflow that they bring. HOWEVER I think that there maybe another new flexi front wing or the first race ( if the new one doesnt flex already) , mainly because of the load tests they

I think the area around the two channels of the side pods, where the new winglets are is an area that maybe used to stabilize or improve airflow to the rear wing.

The rear I expect to be the main area of development, as its once again somewhere where McLaren seem to be lacking/struggling with the principles / out of the box thinking of their rivals - esp when it comes to the exhaust system.

I think this car has the potential to be the most dangerous if they keep the L sidepods and some how manage to cut off the end part of the side pod and trim down the coke bottle shape.
If they manage that, they could be dominant.

The L shape in fact is less draggy, but it also has a higher pressure on top relative to other cars, so it should have better down force if Mclaren sort out the floor part.

I think they need to get rid of the volume behind the yellow lines or shrink them in.

if they're still slow after that, then the car is worse than we imagined.

How do you figure with more pressure on top?

So they just need to get rid of about 33% of their sidepod? Should be a piece of cake!

I think he means because the air has less of an airfoil shape to pass over than normal sidepods. Normal sidepods are more wing-shaped which would create a pressure drop on top (create lift), whereas the L-pods wouldn't cause as big a pressure drop. ringo, correct me if I'm misinterpreting what you meant!
