Red Bull RB7 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Interesting how shallow the outer edges of the diffuser are

Must increase exhaust flow volume

EDIT: after comparison to the McLaren and TR decided isnt shallow at all

The rumour Ive heard is that the RB7 only has 10% less downforce than the end season RB6, which is ominous for the others as this car can only get better.

that was on the bbc coverage.

One thing to consider is that this car is an evolution not a revolution

That implies that many of the concepts ideas have been honed throughout last year and winter possibly meaning that it has less scope for development.

It could be the case that this car only has 3 or 4 tenths more to extract during the season while other, less conventional cars are at the very beginning of the dev arc and may have a second or more to extract.

You werent supposed to increase power output of the engine too when you make reliability enhancements. Karma is a bitch ey.

Yes I was talking more of a terminal velocity situation. Actually I wonder if RB already anticipated a massive qualy advantage, and so Mark Webber went on about DRS should not be used in Qualy.

If Hamilton gets anywhere near Vettel he'll nail him. Don't forget the leader is most likely going to be the slowest car in a straight line, since he won't be able to use DRS, and if he doesn't have KERS to defend, it's just double whammy.

Just to add some fuel to this:-

Code: Select all

17 1 Sebastian Vettel 17:05:11 308.3
18 2 Mark Webber 17:53:21 308.3
Both drivers set identical speeds in the speed trap, perhaps they have geared up for DRS only...

All flexible wing discussion will be moved to the respective thread.

Same goes for the start-only-KERS discussion.

Red Bull did not have any KERS in Qualy or Race.

Yeah, Horner said it in the interview he gave for BBC immediately after finish. According to his words they were testing it on Friday, but weren't happy with its reliability, so the took it off the car for the rest of the weekend.

So that call for discharging batteries was just some little theatre for us and the other teams.

Looks like the body work is getting hot, similar to Mercedes...

Interesting. Wonder if those internal temperatures are contributing to their KERS issues. If so they're not going to get them fixed in the next two weeks, especially if we get a hot race...
