Does anyone have a sector by sector speed listing for the qual?
Skeptical scrutiny is the means, in both science and religion, by which deep thoughts can be winnowed from deep nonsense.

Everyones combined sector lap time is almost identical with their final quali time (Vettel's time is the same as he set his best sectors on that run). This shows that the Hamilton's claims about losing a tenth and a half on the last lap might be true and it being a perfect lap could be on pole by a tiny margin.

Sepang qualifying lap time differences between RedBull and McLaren based on each driver's best sector summary:

1) S.Vettel: 1:34.870

2) L.Hamilton: 1:34.898 +0.028

3) M.Webber: 1:35.138 +0.268

4) J.Button: 1:35.194 +0.324

Look at =:04 seconds and again at 1:23.
He is rev limited.
In most cases, the majority is below the average.

That does show that Hamilton was being honest when he said he'd lost some time on a couple of corners, it wasn't an excuse.

Other way round, bouncing off the rev limiter will make it harder for a Renault to pass someone else.

Is it not due to their 7th gear being too short and not allowing enough revs for the DRS to be activated throughout the lap?

I think they may have sacrificed some speed in qualifying for the race seeing as the DRS can only be used in 2 areas.

Yes it will be harder for Renault to pass someone, but these situations aren't mutually exclusive. Remember, they were hitting the rev limiter with DRS on. In the race whomever is defending won't be able to use it, meaning Renault won't be hitting the rev limiter if defending. On the other hand a car that was geared to make best usage of DRS for quali, will have too long gearing if the DRS is off, and because of that will be seeing lower top speeds than if it were geared w/o DRS in mind. You can say KERS will help make up for the higher drag, but the overtaker will also have that in hand.

Where can you see in which areas the DRS can be used during the race?

In Malaysia we're seeing more typical pace from the Red Bull, plus McLaren have improved their setup and brought some small improvements. So maybe McLaren have gained 0.4s and Red Bull have lost 0.3s. Not from KERS or anything they've done, just because they over-performed in Australia.
In my opinion, Red Bull may have gained 3 tenths from KERS, but 3 tenths are lost due to compromised packaging of the cars and the cooling requirement to fit the KERS. So, they are not much faster with KERS.
