Williams FW33

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Oh Lord of Racing Almighty!!!

Look at those sidepods. Williams are really desperate: they're copying HRT!

You sure? I must be going bonkers, two silly mistakes in a day. I fell in love last week, maybe I'm a bit distracted.

Is the torsion bar housing linkage for adjusting ride height? Maybe just for rigidity?

Must be the lack of downforce because the low gear box should help in the tyre wear department.
Hope the upgrades hook up the whole car and give them a big boost. The car actually looks promising.
The car is a dog, at the level of the FW30.
A dog into Q3 with a rookie driver?

The car is getting there, and they still don't have redbull style exhuasts.
It's a little more like mercedes design.
For Sure!!

Doesn't seem to be blowing between the wheels here. They are putting it over the top of the diffuser.
Why can lotuse and virgin make the redbull exhausts yet williams can't?

Maybe Williams reverted back to the "blow the top of the diffuser" design in prevision of the future ban on retarded ignition?

I believe Williams' system tried to mimic the effect enjoyed by RBR, McLaren and Ferrari. Virgin's system does not use an aggressive off-throttle setting:
We are operating both cars in a specification that complies fully with the technical directive regarding engine/exhaust configurations issued to the teams last week by the FIA

It's possible Cosworth is simply lagging way behind when it comes to retarded ignition.

It's a good point, that, JMN. I was wondering whether William's trouble with the RBR diffuser could be related to the quality of the engine.

One other possibility could be the termination of the body work. It finishes so abruptly that the exhaust position might be critical in stopping to much shedding from the back of the bodywork.

The new wing could be responsible for the improvement.
