Mercedes GP W02

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Both guys ran it, Msc is testing it right now also.
Internet back!
I noticed a large amount of Flex just before he went off!
Yeah. That is what I noticed as well. Flexing so much towards the sides of the wing.

That would explain the rear tyres locking and loss of control then.

I think he's implying the car has a disproportionate amount of front down force. The high front down force causes the front wing to flex more severely. However with too much frontal down force the rears might become relatively unloaded - especially under braking. Similar to the way the rear tyres of a car might become unloaded leading to lift-off over steer. Therefore with a much smaller force on the rears than on the fronts, it's easier to lock them causing over steer.

At least, that's what I read into his post.

Ok, reading that it sounds confusing. In brief, the wing flex is a sign of very high front downforce. This causes the front tyres to stick to the track much more compared to the rears which leads to oversteer....

No.

@NewtonMeter
Thank you for explaining that to JET, although I think he knew this beforehand, but just tried a bite on me.
Whole thread long it is constantly being said that the MkIII FW produces more DF which shifts the balance of the car, making the end grip even weaker. That's all.

Is that how the front wing flexing really should look like? It looks as if it were gonna come off!

The vanes on the endplate finally arrive, the inner most blades of the diffuser and how the are formed are pretty interesting.

Finally some "dramatic" changes at MGP :D MK III wing, New RW Endplates, new exhaust (as in Silverstone) let's see how much they'll keep for qualifying on the car

He pushed and nearly came off on the bit kurve, had a bit off a tank slap moment which was really well held.
I think by that and the off he ha at Dunlop kehre, says to me he may be on a higher fuel load. I could be wrong...

Just watching some onboard FP2 footage and yes, Nico has the MK3 wing.

It flexes visibly more than anything out there too. Still havent seen the times....
