Not the last time in F1 this will be done and not the first.
Always a good motivator to use a contract to improve a drivers performance ten-fold.
I think that Renault missed an opertunity to get Heidfeld on a 4 race rolling deal to motivate him thru the season. However id have given Senna more FP1s to date to keep Heidfeld on his toes as well, this would mean that Senna could jump in earlier and replace Heidfeld.
I also belive they did try and offer Force India money for Hulkenberg, but Force India were wanting alot of money, as for other replacements, it was really difficult for Renault to get a quality driver at such short notice and for a decent price. Their hands were tied.
But this is all down to money and to try and get some Brazillian based sponsors on the car ASAP.
