It's obviously a very straight copy and very striking. What's strange is that if this is supposed to be the beginnings of a 2012 front wing then I'm wondering what this will tell them once it gets put on a completely different car next year. It all seems a bit....desperate, like they're hunting for ideas at a time when their car for next year and their thinking for it should be quite finalised.

The fact that Alonso looked a bit frustrated in an interview before the race and said that he wanted them to come up with their own ideas just adds fuel the the fire a bit really. Odd.

i dont think that this is their basis for the 2012 fw...its a freaking copy of the rb7's wing..i think they just wanted to test it and see how it performs and get an idea..

If it's not going to be the basis of a 2012 front wing, why bother? Alonso's attitude towards it I found a bit strange. The worrying thing is that it just gives a good indication of how confused and how far behind they really might be.

I haven't a clue if this wing is the basis for 2012, but it's a radical departure from everything they've used thus far in the season, so it will allow them to gain more data which could potentially help them.
Does it closely resemble the RBR's wing? Yes but what's so wrong with that? Didn't RBR copy McLarens R flap on their FW? Indeed they did. RBR is ahead of the pack so it only makes sense to try things other successful teams are doing, IMHO. I don't think it's any indication that the Scuderia will try and copy everything that RBR does.

BTW, new to the forum and I must say I love it!! I read all 103 pages last night. Big F1 lover here and Ferrari is obviously my team. See you all around.

They are on the right track. 8)
Copy to learn, copy to understand. When you understand they you create.

To understand it.

Apparently they were even applying flovis paint to Alonso's car before it made it's way to the grid this morning!

I wonder if the new front wing doesn't mesh well with the rest of the car, and that is why it hasn't performed better than the older front wing.

Yes they can do this because the front wing can be measured more or less in isolation from the rest of the car. They could have had all kinds of sensors on it and got data close to what they'll get next year, if it is next years wing which i doubt.

It looks like they have successfully reverse engineered the Red Bull Monza wing left behind by Mark Webber at the Parabolica. I am referring to the Carbon Fibre layering technique to achieve flexibility of course; rather than the design of the wing itself. I read somewhere in the forum that half the front wing ended up with Ferrari.
Yup, RBR totalled their car in the worst place possible

Check this picture out, on the Autosport forums, making quite a few people laugh:

YOu know, it is all coming full circle. I have always supported copying of your competitors designs. It is one of the best ways to engineer.

A good start for 2012. Now if Ferrari can only get hold of a RBR gearbox! lol

Has the acquisition of RB's FW(half of it), been discussed?

Isn't that basically stealing? Or debris on the race track is public domain?

At Monza, it's the Tifosi's domain!

On that any team would just throw a major part way. They would be careful to destroy it enough so it couldn't be copied.
