I don't remember if the track is banked there, but if it is, then the right side (drivers right) could hit the banking, causing the left side to hit the track, and then it just goes back and forth.
EDIT: After seeing footage again, I am wrong.
Most flying creatures have some sort of oscillating wings, they seem pretty effective at allowing them to fly. It's not far fetched that the flapping wing is helping.ringo wrote:I've just seen the video. That the danger of still picks.
The wing is oscillating. This is called wing flutter. It's not desirable, but i guess in this case , the case of a race car, maybe it helps.
The flutter is probably purposely tuned.
How many human made machines exploit this though? I'm not 100% discounting it, but it's not something humans understand how to exploit well.godlameroso wrote:Most flying creatures have some sort of oscillating wings, they seem pretty effective at allowing them to fly. Flapping a wing to generate lift and thrust is a bit different. They are powered devices trying to move the air. Wouldn't really work if they were still would they? (ps humans use the same effect in pumps, propellers, helicopters, etc)godlameroso wrote:Most flying creatures have some sort of oscillating wings, they seem pretty effective at allowing them to fly. LOL, if that was Ferrari trying to handle on next years car then they are in a bit of trouble really, it was laughable, not sure the Tifosi need that. I doubt this was the intended effect. It's probably new version of the wing maybe it's a little too flexible. Either way it's nice to see Ferrari experimenting with different parts trying to get a handle on 2012 early. We TIFOSI need it.
Yes because when experimenting with new parts, everything always goes perfect. Hey let's not even mention that Ferrari was on top of the time sheet, even with that "laughable" wing...dave34m wrote:LOL, if that was Ferrari trying to handle on next years car then they are in a bit of trouble really, it was laughable, not sure the Tifosi need that. In my opinion, considering felipe massa went fastest in 2nd practice with that wing, it isnt laughable, if this wing is the trend going forward next year and people win with it, it wont be laughableCrucial_Xtreme wrote:Yes because when experimenting with new parts, everything always goes perfect. Obviously the stated point of running that wing is to gain an understanding, but you obviously have your own opinion.
Oh did they set the fastest time with that wobbly wing on, I didnt realise that. Not that it means much as it was clearly illegal.Crucial_Xtreme wrote:Yes because when experimenting with new parts, everything always goes perfect.
