3330mm, plenty of room for the tank, engine and gearbox.

mine is at 3400mm.

I notice the diffuser has a valley where the the crash structure is.
Why not have it flat across the top?
Will the crash structure be that low?
For Sure!!

yeah, minimizing the obstruction of the underside of the beam wing, and keeping CofG low, must be beneficial eh?

That shape is not final, but will be adapted to any changes of the diffuser roof, and could even be shaped to reduce drag/increase DF on the top of the diffuser, and the central part will be sculpted around the crash structure, it won't be that wide!

It's a bit of a valley atm

Everything is taking too long!

Sidepods and engine cover are a complete nightmare to design, I just can't figure out how to make the two 'go together' in a nice way!

Thanks for all the support though!

Imagine what the manufacturing department has to go through. If I may Ferrari had a very interesting thing they did with the sidepods, it seems the philosophy was to improve aero within that region of bodywork(ie to influence flow through the sidepods openings), however their design compromised the way the engine cover tapers towards the rear. I think performance can be gained, but designing a nicely tapered engine cover can have a negative impact on through chassis airflow. Just another compromise to consider while you pull out your hair over the design.

Cheers,

That's visible on F10, and by the looks of it, Renault had the same issue on the R30 aswell. It's just all this which turns my head to mush, I can't visualise it.

Its the transition from sidepod to engine cover, as it changes along the pod, along with intergrating the fuel tank into the design.

So confusing...

Muh hu ha ha ha. Yes they are a pain. Looking back it is easier to make a 1 piece car than making panels. I wasted a lot of time aligning panels for my design.
It's not worth doing piece by piece.
Do one big solid body, shell it, then cut it up if you wish.

Tangency is key though. When one curve ends and another begins, they need to be tangential. Also work with planes.
If you notice these:

The seams of engine and side pod are straight lines from top view. See the black lines?
It is easier to terminate the side pod in a plane and begin the engine cover in the same plane using the same sketch/curve as used in the sidepod.

hope this helps.
For Sure!!

A quick mock-up on the front of the car, and a preview of our work so far. Looking to launch the i12 on 12th/13th February, but still a long way to go. Suspension and Engine cover, the main areas needed to be done still.
