Did anybody else notice a "twich" on a Ferrari just before getting to the Rascasse?

Here is the animated version of incident:

Rascasse is a very tight right hander, the line is to swing to the left a bit before turning right. Shu came straight down the right side, and then when it was time to turn right, he was way out of position, deliberately.

i agree dave. this is the worst show of sportsmanship i've seen in a long time. it makes me feel sick to watch the sport i love and its champions. its like bike racers doing drugs. MSC has shown his dark side before by crashing into hill and villenuve before, his style and ethics have been evident for a while. but, to balk a track because you cannot go any faster brings his ethics to a new low. i am sickened, saddened and disapointed.

i believe he should be banned for the rest of the season and encoureged to retire. what kind of example is he setting for the up and commers as well as the millions who worship him.

i'm glad i cheer for the engineers and not the drivers. lol

I did not notice what DaveKillens explains about Schumacher being out of the race line. I had the impression that something was wrong with the car the second time Schu braked, almost at the apex. I was wondering why in heaven he had released the brakes and why he had kicked them so hard at the initial point of curve, to begin.

Then it stopped and then everything, but for a moment I just thought "What a good luck, to have a breakdown right now...". I concede it was just an "impression". I have not seen any replay because I do not want to, but I have seen hundreds if not thousands of races, so I tend to believe myself.

The car straightened right at, or maybe a little before the apex. It did not appear like a slide to me: it was either a breakdown or a move. Of course, I can be wrong. And of course there are a thousand motives for Schumacher to move whenever he wants.

Mr. Schumacher probably has a new record: the driver with more sanctions in history.

What could be worse: I guess this means the qualification system could be changed again...

Well, I love those french-canadians:

"It would even be embarrassing for [Yuji] Ide [who had his superlicence removed earlier in the season]." -- Jacques Villeneuve --

And look what Webber said:

“You could say he was trying very, very hard in the last sector, but it looks like there’s been two moves on the steering wheel from what I’ve heard." -- Mark Webber --

Of course, I think those two guys are really intelligent: they agree with me.

Webber does not mention it, but I still thinks Schumacher kicked the brakes.

And, oh, my, I am so proud of Juan Montoya's prudence...

“Was it really a mistake? I’m not so sure.”

Actually, me neither. I still cannot believe Schumacher was doing everything on purpose. Maybe it was a mistake (if I am wrong and he did not brake hard) and then it was too tempting to stall...

Well guys, I know nobody is with me right now, but I really really really think it was a genuine mistake on Michael's part. He was on a timed lap and he did his best 1st sector time. He was really trying to get a nice lead over Alonso. If you look at the onboard camera footage, he did brake hard as he was about to turn and that caused him to slide the way he did.

Secondly, do you really think that a man like him, the greatest sportsman in the world, a 7 time championship winner, and the most respected person in F1 would really do something like that on purpose? and spoil his reputation? Its like Bernie Ecclestone doing a strip show in the paddock. Anybody getting my point?????

Not really no.

As for his reputation, that's pretty much known already, with the famous swerving, hitting people to win titles, run illegal cars to win. I don't think this will change a lot to that.

Second, and what Jean Todt did not mention is that Michael was far off the pace in S2 and would hardly have managed to improve on his time, while Alonso was already 0.3s faster.

Or as Jacques Villeneuve said: "Is that a 7 times world champion?" as he could absolutely not believe such a stupid mistake from such an experienced driver.

Edit: I now watched that video like 10 times and I'm convinced it's on purpose. I'm quite sure it was not planned as obviously he is pushed, but when the car seems stable, he turns left again just enough not to make the corner. I also find it very strange that he's 10 seconds with his hand down left under the steering wheel without anything happening. An finally, when the marshall is close to him (with his hand still there) his engine switches off. Sorry guys but to me, he steered so that he couldn't make the corner and then after some time switched off his own engine.

But the problem is that he has done things like this befor, Eg. the JV incident. He wants ot win no matter the cost, so its totaly belivable.

Ultimatly, If he did it intentioanly or not, it all comes down to his past, his track record (no pun intended) shows a number of time where he has done something bad, So when it came to this incident everybody point their finger.

Your past always catchs up with you
I believe in the chain of command, Its the chain I use to beat you till you do what i want!!!

Hmm wasnt Villeneuve given a penalty for blocking Fisichella not so long ago ? Seems like Schumacher is not the only world champion that cannot stick to the rules.

Ok, so I agree about the part that he would have been on P2 had Alonso completed his lap. But if he really wanted to do something like that he would not have been foolish to pull out a move like that which can put his intentions in doubt, rather he could have done a spin while taking the right turn and making it look like an understeer problem or something like that.

And about Jacques, he is always looking for an opportunity to pull the other person's leg.

The difference is that Villeneuve didn't block the whole road and lie about it.

He ate up enough ground to pull out the yellow flags and impede everybody else.

Hold the phone tpe!
Schumacher was no newer to F1 than Hill, and if he was, it certainly wasn't by much.
you seem to be thinking that Schumi was passing Hill, it was the other way round, Schumacher had already damaged his car, and Hill was just about to overtake perfectly normally, admittedly, he locked his brakes slightly on the way in, but Schumi should have been much further away, if Hill hadn't done that, the collision wouldn't have been as big for Schumacher, but he probably would forced Hill into the wall. Schumi was basically turning in to the corner as if there was no-one there.

Had Hill got by, there was no way Schumacher would've got back passed him after that bump into the wall that started it all.
Correct: I was remembering wrong. I saw the video again. :(
